transmission shifting badly?

have a mild build 440 in my 70 dodge charger & as of late when driving the 2nd to 3rd gear shift (727)seems to rev up before engaging....any ideas on what could cause this....really don't want pull tranny out....thx.........

Try adjusting the kickdown band, a loose adjustment can cause rpm flareup on the 2-3 shift.
