Hi,
Have serious problem with my extrem energy (high lift) hydralic comp cam and lifters in my stroker.

Searching for com cams mechanical roller xr280r but didn't find any topic about it here.

What do you guys think about that cam in my combo:
520 with Indy SR heads, edelbrock 6-pack manifold, hollys, 3600 stall and 4.10, Street friendly comp and TTI 2 1/8 headers. Dyno 583 hp and 654 ft/lb.

Thanks,

The 280 street roller is gonna be small in a 520 cube motor. I would look at the XR292R Street Roller for that displacement which will work nice with the stall and gear you're currently running in the car.  ;)

What cam were you running and what problems did you have ? Like Brian (1hot68).....i'm curious  :scratchchin:

I run the XE285HL comp cams. Something happened, most likely a lifter who haved collapsed - now I have pushrod short ;)
I have start to take apart the top of enegine...

Thanks

I have read the MoparMuscleMag an theirs 446 indy story, they run a xr280r with good succses.

When I took the heads and stuff apart I found the pushrod and the lifter. The pushrod was broken. The tip at the lifter side was broken, damn!
I haven't found the broken piece but hope to do when draw the oil...

Now I'm not sure if I gona buy a new lifter and a pushrod or skip the hole hydralic thing and buy a street roller cam (Like the Comp Cam XR292R (Rons advise).

Thanks

Like Brian said....we could use more info to help figure out what happened.  ;)

It could be several things that caused the failure ;

valve float due to over revving
lifter collapse
Incorrect pushrod preload
cam lobe failure

How does the bottom of the lifter look ? Any signs of excessive wear or mushrooming ? How does that lobe look ?

A roller conversion will cost some bucks....it ain't cheap. Lots of things to consider before making the jump.  :yesnod:

Cam & lifters = $$
pushrods
rocker arms unless you are running Harland Sharps/T&D/Jesel
Valve springs & possibly retainers/locks
Electric fuel pump > no mechanical fuel pumps with Roller cams

Not to mention the increased maintenance with a roller...figure every second season (or less depending on milage) on tearing it down and replacing valvesprings and rebuilding/replacing the roller lifters.

Hi again,
I run crane gold roller rockers 1.6, Indy pushrods and comp cams valve springs. The engine builder think it may be a broken lifter who have cause the problem.

I have had a lot of problem with my Indy heads, most problem had been with the oiling.

i have 3 500" motors that run indy sr heads, never had any oiling problems.its a very simple set up.what kind of oil problem do you have?

TOO MUCH HORSEPOWER, IS ALMOST ENOUGH!

To much oil to the heads... Have regulate the flow with installing jets on the external oiling to the heads now.

Now the engine is running again. Bye the way it's was a comp cam XE275HL, Indy push rods and crane 99278 lifters. The push rod was broken between the bowl (to the rocker) and the rod.
