Couple questions...
anyone have one of these and if so, how handy is it?
could it lift a complete car (engine, trans, interior)?

hutch

I have seen them for ATVs and motorcycles, but I dont think I would get near one with a car on it. That does not look safe at all.

Snap On sells them. Someone here posted a pic of theirs a while back. 1hot68 maybe? I'll see if I can find it.

Yep, here it is:

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Are they rated for body resto work only?  I dont think I would put a full car up on that sea-saw setup and then start pulling on a wrench.

Most of those have 6,000 pound capacities and more surface area in contact with the ground than jack stands. Have you ever seen a cargo plane being loaded? Same deal (but mobile). I haven't tried to use one yet which is why I posted the link to someone else's. Brian is probably still on the road home from Carlisle so he won't be able to answer right away.

they use them at tire shops all the time. have for years.  they are quite stable. I've worked under them, and wouldn't worry about doing it again. they are usually  electric powering hydraulic. sucks doing a driveshaft, but for other jobs can be quite usefull.
i have an  8ft ceiling in the garage. would be cool to have one. if you are worried about one comming down on you, put some jack stands under it
third string oil changer

NHCharger

I have pics of my 72 on one. Car was complete minus the bumpers and interior. I was a little nervous at first about my car being on it but it really is quite stable. The only thing is that it has a max. lift height of 3 1/2 to 4 feet.
I'm going to get one for my garage. Some day.

If you have no vision or creative spirit, you can always fall back on the way the factory did it.

those hoists are great!! I love ours!

There are some flimsy ones , but the SnapOn one that we have is VERY stable and is rated to handle even pick-up trucks.
there are lots of good sturdy ones besides the SnapOn one but be sure to get a sturdy one.  :Twocents:
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

I used one once but it was pretty old. The thing I didn't like about it was that the lifting surface covered too much of the bottom of the car and it was a PITA to move around (heavy). I'm sure they make some that are much more usable and lighter now days.

thats the thing I noticed, the Snap On unit has a table top like surface so you wouldn't be able to access anything above it.
Eagle has one that has bars running across the top which seems like it would give you more working room.
