If you had the opportunity to see Elvis Costello and the Police for free, would you go or sell the tickets?  I have two VIP tickets to see them and am thinking of taking a certain someone. It would be a great date. On the other hand, non VIP tickets are going for $200 each. I also have a VIP parking pass. I like Elvis Costello and the Police. But they are far from my favorite bands. It would just be a nice date to go down and eat somewhere nice and go to a great show.  I don't know what to do.  Anyone seen them live? Are they good?   Thanks.  Jeremy

If would be a great date is right.  If the chick digs either one of the bands, you'll be the "man"!

I don't care much for either band but I'd go for it - the price is right isn't it?

sell the tickets...use the money to upgrade your socket and end wrench sets. or maybe buy that sandblasting cabinet you've been dreaming about. the show will only last a few hours. a good sandblaster is forever.

I'd put those bands in the "musicians' musician" category. You really need to appreciate their musical talent to pay to go see them.
And by appreciate, I mean understand what it is that they are doing - not just enjoy the music.

Whether you like the end result or not, you're talking about 2 of the tightest-playing groups of musicians in recent history. (although I've heard some board recordings of The Police that would make Linda McCartney seem like a superstar.)

I'd put it this way: If you know how to make the same music, but still can't figure out how they do it so well, then seeing them live is an experience.
If you just like the music, sell the tickets and go out for a nice dinner, buy a couple of CDs of those bands to listen to... then upgrade your socket and end wrench sets.

Speaking of tight playing bands, got any VIP ticks for RUSH in Toronto tonight? I'll be section 301. I need three VIP passes.
(Seriously, do you? Anyone?)

Yep. Being from Neil Peart's stomping grounds, they've had a bit of an effect on me. (Lakeside Park is in my city.)
But I liked them before I knew that.
I met Geddy Lee when I was about 11 or 12 - had no idea who the heck he was though. He lived across the hall from my sister in Toronto.

I can't wait for the show tonight. I saw them last year and while this is an extension of the same tour, they did change up the set list.

Hey C, sorry for the highjack.

bull

My wife and I once got free tickets to see Elton John and I had no desire. There's probably 200 other bands I'd rather see before him because IMO he's like a slightly toned-down Liberace. But we also felt weird about selling tickets that someone gave us so we ended up going. Hopefully if that happens again I'll just come up with another solution, like maybe sell them and split the money with the person who gave them to me.

Oops got my "brush with greatnes" mixed up.
Bruce Cockburn lived across the hall.
The same sister's daughter used to babysit Geddy Lee's kids.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

He bought me lunch. Him and his girl loved the show.

Carma works in great ways. I got VIP tickets and three grass tickets to crue fest from another friend. I love working for Toyota.

If anyone in Utah wants to go, I have one extra for the grass. That will save you like $60.

Elvis Costello would be worth seeing. The Police are a big yawn to me.
