And yes, I do like Newports. Dont say anything if it aint an answer! I want to save another boat from the crusher, and build a good cruise car in the process.

What rearends were avialable in 1971 Newports?

Do any companies make replacement Newport Sheetmetal and other Restoration Parts? Paddock doesnt sell a thing for basically any C-Body.

Thanks ahead of time for the answers!

WHY YOU SO WORRIED ABOUT HAVING A DAMN DANA 60?  you making over 800 horse?

TNT: Chrysler, super commando: plymouth, magnum: dodge  At least that is what I understand.

They are nice boats, nothing wrong with them.

Dont know anything about them dar' models and options.

The only reason I am so worried about having a damn Dana 60 is because my uncle blew three 8 3/4" rearends out of his 440 Road Runner back in the 70s! He finally got the idea for a Dana 60 after that. I want to put a 440 six pack TNT in a Newport one day. I figure, why go through the trouble of blowing up a few rearends, when just get it right the first damn time!

Pretty god darn funny. :smilielol:
Yes, I do have a sense of humor, but a lot of guys just think of C Bodies as boats.

You can buy a lot of 8 3/4 rear ends for the price of one Dana 60. I'm curious how your uncle managed to grenade three of them though. That sounds like quite a feat. :eek2:

Blown70

Most 8 3/4 will handle all you can esp. if set up good with good axles, I would gues the broke the axles?  Just get some good aftermarket ones.

Most Neports had one leggers and I dont know or have never seen a factory DANA in one.... dont mean that they dont exist though.

What rearends were avialable in 1971 Newports? these were not racecars...  8 3/4 SG was optional you could get real steep gears like 3:23 :D IIRC no dana C body ever

Do any companies make replacement Newport Sheetmetal? none that i know of

and other Restoration Parts?  YR1 has a A/C body catalog but it really mostly an A body book

Paddock doesnt sell a thing for basically any C-Body. neither does anybody else  :pity:

If you have no vision or creative spirit, you can always fall back on the way the factory did it.

rt green

you could try sherman and associates. they might still sell body pieces for a newport.

He actually blew them up because his engine was hopped up beyond belief, and all three were donors out of an old scrap yard near us. They were all out of older A bodies that have long since been turned into  bumpers. Anyway, they were pretty much worn out when he got them, and he didnt have money to buy new ones, so he just kept getting a new one from a junker eveytime. Eventually, like I said, he got tired of it and bought a good, used Dana 60.

whoa, seriously you need calm the %^&* down  ... its mot even like he said illegal street racing, or anything else that should piss you off. :RantExplode: and he is right to an 8 3/4 is a serious peice of hardware more than enough for a street car. you have 37 posts, and you have now lost any respect you may have had on this site  :Twocents:

Yeah, I refrained from posting earlier but my thought was that he wasn't breaking axles unless he was racing with slicks and a 4-speed (or he was using garbage).

As for the Newport, the reason people think it's a boat is because, well, it's a boat. Not a bad car to cruise in and can be somewhat fast. However, you can strap JATO rockets on the QE II and still not outrun a bass boat. I have a friend who loves C bodies on the highway but when he races he uses his 65 Coronet (which probably has a 600-700 pound weight advantage even with a Hemi).

I really like the old C bodys. And to be honest there isnt many around anymore and its a nice refreshing change at car shows to see them nowadays.

2 units at a recent show. Both in orginal and excellent shape!

One was for sale..

More than likely these were not even 8 3/4 rear ends.....most a-bodies came with 8.25 or 7.25 rear ends. If he bolted them into a roadrunner then the spring perches would have had to been relocated because of the different measurements between a-body > b-body and judging by the low-buck approach to this particular car this doesn't seem plausable  :P

Who knows what actually made it into this car without actual pix of the rear end(s) in question ?  ;)

Ok, back to the question at hand ; a well built 8 3/4 will be fine under a heavy c-body as long as the car doesn't dead hook (slicks) and you will never break it.  :Twocents:

A buddy races his Cuda with a very healthy 440, 4000 stall, 4.10's and slicks and it hooks hard (1.5 60 ft short times & high 11 ET's) with the stock axles and a Detroit locker SG unit and has yet to break the rear end. 8 3/4's are pretty tough  :2thumbs:
