Your question "AS PRESENTED" is rather loaded..

How old of a rebuild?

Who did the rebuild?

What was done in the rebuild?

Any problems?

How strong is the motor and has he gone for a drive in it??

All of this has to be taken into account as every bit of it makes a difference.  If the motor runs like a raped ape $1500.00 is cheap.. You would be hard pressed to buy one done carb to pan for the same money. On the other hand you can buy a 440 nearly complete and rebuildable around here for 3-5 hundred bucks. Then you put into it what you want and KNOW everything is new and good.. This will normally cost a bit more than 1500 to do, but it is what you speck out..

The other end of it is having a buyer at a price you agree upon. Can you sell it for 1500,, sure.. Can you replace it for the same money,, not normally..

Are you thinking about a new build that your 440 won't work for?? Keep in mind that there is something to be said for OWNING a known GOOD BLOCK.....
