I was watching Tv over the weekend, and on MuscleCar, they had a B2 Blue 1971 Dodge Demon 340. I was thinkin the entire time, Holy $hit! I had never seen one before, let alone a 340. I became obsessed with them overnight. I am now looking for one of them, a 1970 Charger, AND a 1973 Javelin. Just what I need. :icon_smile_blackeye: Anyway, I need help from the A-Body guys out there. I am new to A-Bodies, so please correct me if anything is wrong.

1. What engines were availabe in 1971 Demons? Isnt it slant six and 340?

2. Besides the engine, what were the differences between the normal 1971 Demon, and the Demon 340?

3. Would it be possible to clone a Demon from another Mopar? If so, which one? (I know this sounds stupid, but with my luck, I will never find one)

4. Do any companies make 340 blocks? It would be my luck the only Demon I ever find will be a 225 slant six.

5. What rear ends came in the Demons in 1971? I want a Sure-Gripe Dana 60, if those came in them. (and yes, I do know the 340 is a small block)

6. Could somebody out there upload pictures of the following colors? A4 Light Gunmetal Poly, A8 Gunmetal Gray Poly, B7 Dark Blue Poly, E5 Bright Red, and V2 Hemi Orange

7. What packages and options could be ordered on the Demons. (Long answer, I know)

8. Was Demon, and Demon 340, the only different Levesl? Nothing like Sport Demon, or Speed Demon, right?

9. Was the 340 in the 1971 Demons availabe in Six Pack? If not, what was available.

10. Was the interior of a Demon only Bench seats? Also, what colors were the interior available in?

A-Body guys, please dont laugh!

I love Demons...I like them more than Dusters. After my '69 is done, I want either a '71 Charger or a '71/'72 Demon.

Hi! As the owner of a b2 1971 dodge demon let me help ya out  :2thumbs:

1. You could get a slant six,318 2 barrel and 340 4 bbl.

2. It depends on how the car came or was ordered. You could get rallye mirrors, stripes package, hood scoops, hood pins, and in 1971 the demon 340 came standard with the factory tach and round speedometer. In 1972 this becomes optional. You could get pretty much the same options on one of these as a duster 340 of the era. A fully dressed out '71 demon is one bad little ride. They also made a demon "sizzler" which came with all the looks package of the 340 cars but minus the 340 small block. They made these to fight the climbing muscle car insurance rates. Also available was the decklid wing. Sizzlers are quite hard to find today as well. The demon 340 could be had with a heavier duty suspension and also got the 8.75 rear, with disc brakes available to (cant remember if standard or not) . A real 340 demon has "H" in the fifth digit of the vin. G=318,and C=225 slant six. You could get rallye wheels or dog dish hubcaps, some 318 cars even had the full cover hubcaps which IMO did nothing for the car  :smilielol: Colors were many and there's lots I'll forget Im sure. Brown, black, gold, green, sublime green, plum krazy purple (FC7),Ev2 hemi orange,fy1 lemon twist yellow, alpine white,butterscotch,tan,b2 blue,b5 blue, just to give you some idea. Those were the days because you could order a completly unique car by checking different boxes  :coolgleamA:

3.Yes! It has been done! You could take a '71-72 duster and use the entire front clip front a 1970-72 dart(bumpers, hood, fenders, everything from a donor car). The trick would be finding a demon taillight panel as the taillights/tailpanels to demons are unique.

4.Mopar performance was making a 340 restoration block block but it's terribly expensive. If I were you Id grab a 360 and dress it up like a 340 and put all the hot goodies in it. You can even buy a stroker kit to punch the 360 out to 408 cubes. Sure buddy it's a 340  My buddy has one in a '74 duster..torque for days!!! Or just put in a basic 360 and be happy with it  :2thumbs:

5.You could get the small 7 1/4 rear for the smaller engines or get the 8 3/4 rear that came with the demon 340's to handle the added power.  Sure grip was optional with the 8 3/4 with gears ranging from (IIRC) 3.23-3.55-3.91. No dana 60 available...

6.Dont have any pics sorry- but my demon is tore down at the moment. Do a search on yahoo! images

7. You had 2 or 3 basic versions depending on how you looked at it. The demon, demon sizzler, and the demon 340. Engines were 198 slant six,225 slant six,318 2bbl v8,340 4bbl. You could get 3 speed on the column with the slant or auto (lots of variation here)- Or the demon 340 with either a 3 speed or 4 speed or the floor, auto on the column or auto in floor with console and bucket seats. There's to many combinations really to go into....

8.demon,demon 340 and demon sizzler...all are hard to find nowadays. The demon was only made in 1971 and 1972. It was replaced by the dart sport in 1973 due to religious groups protesting the use of the name "demon".

9. There was package offered by mr norm's grand spaulding dodge that was a demon with the six pack induction system. Extremely rare and valuable only a handful were made. One to top that was offered by the same dealership. The demon GSS It was a demon 340 with an underhood supercharger :o Even more rare than the six pack demon. Keep in the mind these were not production from chrysler but were packages you could get from grand spaulding dodge at the time. I've only seen either one of these only on the internet.

10. You could get bench or buckets. There were lots of interior colors, black, white, blue, red, green, tan, brown, and probably a handful Im forgetting about.

"Remember when I said this car was death proof? Well that wasnt' a lie-this car is 100%death proof- only to get the benefit of it honey you really need to be sitting in my seat"...

I was always a big block B-body guy .... until I got my first ride in a 340 A-body. I still like the B-body styling, but the A-body small blocks are really well-rounded car. The light weight makes them really fun to drive with the right power plant. The other nice thing about them is that you can still buy an affordable one, especially if you want to start with a slant 6 and build a clone or hot-rod.

If it's gonna be a 340, it needs to sound like this one.  (it's in my garage) :D and I just took the video.  My eyes are still burning.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I think that was just the 71 340 Dusters.
