Can you run a Power Steering box like a Manual?

I just completed my car (pics to follow) and want to drive it but my P/S box is leaking from the valve body when pressurized - I need to replace the O rings.
Can I drive the car without the pump's belt like manual steering without breaking anything until I can get around to replacing the O rings...?

Yes and no.  You can do it but it's going to take a LOT more effort than a manual box and it's a great way to blow seals but if it's as you say and the seals are already shot, then...

I agree, plus the extra force on the steeriing column can't be good on it. I would say it would be dangerous myself. I wouldn't drive it unless I had to take it somewhere. When you take it for a spin I think you will change your mind.

Fluid trapped in the non pressurized steering box is part of what makes it hard to steer without the pump.

One trick to make the P/S box easier to turn without the pump is to disconnect both lines and turn the wheel from stop-to-stop several times to pump out most of the fluid.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

YEAH, IT IS A BI**H!!! LOL
Are the O rings special items, or just off the shelf?  I can't get any to fit properly...

:iagree:  When I lost my p/s belt it was a pain, and be prepared to turn what used to be a regular turn into a 3 point turn :Twocents:
