OK, just fixed one problem and now I have another. My first problem was with my rear blinker and brake light not working on the drivers rear of the car and I fixed that with a new blinker column switch. Now my alt gauge is pegged out while driving and it sort of bounces when pegged. When I come to a stop it goes normal about half way on the gauge. Any one have any ideas on what might be causing this to happenĀ  :scratchchin:. Any thing I should try?
Thanks for any help

ground to the voltage regulator???  or the vr itself.  check connections at the back of alt and vr.   :scratchchin: :popcrn:

Just went out to the car and while it was running I tried to wiggle the positive red wire around on the alt gauge and the gauge went crazy. It go half way then peg out.

the wire should not wiggle, maybe the stud insulator is broken/loose.  disconnect the battery, remove the wire from the stud on the alt, and make sure the stud does not wiggle, there should be another nut under the wire terminal, snug that one up, if everything looks ok reinstall the wire, connect battery and test.  its important that the wires have a good connection, most importantly the sensing wire(s) (depending on 1-wire/3-wire alt??) to the regulator, and at the regulator, and make sure the regulator is grounded very well.   :popcrn:

Alright so I put a new voltage regulator on and it's alot better are far as it not pegging out. Now when I'm at idle it's discharging a little but when I get on to it, it hardly goes over half way. It this normal?

Could have I done the alternator in when the voltage regulator went in it and maybe that's why it's discharging now?

That's pretty much normal.  The old Mopar alternators usually show a slight discharge at idle, especially with lights and heater on.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.
