Ratchet Shifters - opinions please!

I have a 3rd Gen, 440/727, automatic, console, reverse pattern, set up in my 74'. The original shifter and linkage is damaged and/or missing.

I have read the threads on front vs rear cable, Hurst Pro-matic 2 and Turbo Action Cheetah, also the BM Pro Ratchet.  I would like this new set up to fit into the original console nicely, have a lighted gear indicator, lock out protection and, of course the "slap stick" ratchet action.  I'd prefer not to cut and weld too much.

Has anyone done this lately?  Any advice or opinions are appreciated.

Thanks!

Mefirst

I bought a Hurst V-Matic rathet shifter, I just love it. The stock shifter didint work any more. I mounted the Hurst shifter with the stock console. Didint take that much work. You need to make the lid hole larger so the shifter can move. You also need to move the console back about 4-5" and make new brackets for it. You also have to cut off the stock shifter mounts.

There is a thread where one member made the shifter work with the "stock" linkage, in other words, he made a linkage so he didint have to use the shifter cable.. Do a search and you'll find that thread...
