Sad sight. Sorry I didn't get a closer pic. I took it from a bridge. About a dozen or so 50's  :'(    Would be neat to start a thread on these. I know of a couple other places that have some more.

I don't see it as a sad sight, I see a bunch of old used up cars that are good for nothing sitting beside a river, art if you will, kinda like the Cadillac Ranch.

A sad sight would be seeing them go into the crusher and then the recycled metal shipped to China to make missiles that, according to some, would be used against the United States.

I also don't see how cars sitting on the bank of a creek would stop erosion as the water would be able to seep around the car and still erode the bank.

I'm guessing that it helps prevent erosion when the river is flowing fast. Good use of Fords and Chevys....

Or maybe the cars were up on the surface and storm waters eroded the ground beneath them and the fell in?
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

The70RT

I just happened to run onto them yesterday when I was out of town. I just had my cell phone to take a pic. Next time I am up that way I will try to get some better ones. Yeah they use to put them in the bends of creeks and rivers to stop the eroding....and yes it works. Probably a enviromental thing if you did it now and with scrap as high as it is it probably wouldn't happen. One looked like a 57 Chevy. :scratchchin:

Here's an idea: Take ALL the '57 Chevys and build up the levee outside of New Orleans!! :2thumbs:
