does anyone know if one of the screen used torino's from the old starsky and hutch series was used on the movie also? :yesnod:

Nope.  I know the guy that built the 2 hero cars for the movie.  I was talking to him about it awhile ago.  He did 2 cars, I'm pretty sure it was 2 cars, shipped them out to California and they built 11 or 12 more to wreck.

i was curious because there is one on e-bay right now that the guy claims was an original from the series and had some time on the movie also...

BlueSS454

Were those Torinos ever kept track of after the series was over?

i believe there was one on e-bay last year that was supposed to have been one from the series but it had some damage to its quarter panel by one of the owners after the series. this one on e-bay now is stated as being designed by george barris and used on the series and the movie...

"Movie" Mike Walsh in California built the hero Torinos used in the movie (CVS built the stunt cars). He still has the main"hero" car in his personal collection and doesn't plan on selling it. I know he sold the other hero car, personally escorted the wrecks to the crusher, and still had atleast one of the generic movie Torinos on site. He also bought a survivor factory Torino with that paint scheme that never went in the movie and I think he is planning on selling that, or has already sold it. He has done some amazing mods to both hero cars. He used the main hero car in the Car and Driver Celebrity car shootout. It did very well and gave John Schneider's "Bo's General Lee" a serious run for its money.

Movie Mike showed me some of his own ideas that went into the movie versions of the car. he used Viper red for the paint, modified the stripe placement a little and gave it a black pinstripe around the white stripe so it would "pop".

If this is the case, I wonder why the guy I was talking to out here would be talking about building the movie cars??

Here are a few pics I took at Mike's. These are not hero cars but second unit "mules".

did george barris actually design the original car for the series? i e-mailed the idiot about the car and he said he would sell it now for $100,000!!!!!

JimShine

The Hero car.

BTW, on topic, Mike said there were no known survivors from the show still owned by the studios, so he had to source out and build all the cars. Barris has a bad reputation. His car is no doubt a clone he built, like most of the cars in his collection. Barris claims he designed every star car on the planet, but in reality he has only designed a few, his most famous the original Batmolbile, which was really a 50's concept car that he lightly modified.

PS- Every picture I posted I personally took. I don't mind if you save them, just be cool with how you use them

And wasn't it Barris' brother who actually did most of the physical work?  George was mainly a promoter?

JimShine

That is probably true. But Barris claims he had a hand in designing :

The General Lee
Back to the Future Delorean
Monkeemolbile
Black Beauty (Green Hornet)
Ecto1 (Ghostbusters)
The Munster Coach and Dragula
Herbie the Love Bug

These are just a few he claims to have designed but never had anything to do with any of them. Some he built clones of, some he had some other association with builders or designers. If Noah's Ark had wheels, you can bet Barris would have claimed he was the one that really built it by now.

thanks jimshine. the guy i e-mailed came across very arrogant too. i am sure it's another scam bs story to hook some sucker with money into thinking it's a real one...

The Kid

Yep, Jimshine is correct. I have a Hot Rod Magazine article some where about the cars made for the movie. Those things were built!

George Barris didn't have anything to do with the creation of the car. He owns the "rights" to the TV Car's image. He bought it before the movie came out.

George Grenier is the actual designer of the car. He was the head of transportation for the studio at the time.

The car Barris owned in 2003 was "rarely used as a tow car" in the movie, according to the picture car coordinator. I believe this is the car that is on ebay.
