So I media blast... then what?

I got lucky and a buddy had this sand blaster and didnt need it.  We worked out a nice deal and I now own it.   :2thumbs:

First thing I want to do, is I want to gut the interior, blast it, patch the holes in the floor (they arent too bad), and then rustproof it so I can get the interior back together.  So I have a few questions...  Any advice would be great! 

1. What type of media should I use for this job?  Looking for cheap but effective here.

2. After I blast the metal, what is the next step?  I dont want to screw this up, I want to know that my car isnt rotting out under the carpet.  Its not going to be a show car so I dont care what it looks like, but I want the rust GONE. Again, money is an issue here, so if I can avoid any "$200 a can" stuff that would be great.   ;)

3. What type of sound deadener do you recommend under the carpet?

TRY USING 20/40 BLACK BEAUTY FOR BLASTING. A RUBBERIZED UNDERCOATING IS CHEAP AND WORKS WELL.

Play sand from home depot. 5 bucks a bag.
Worked great for me, I wouldn't use it on the outer metal though.
Makes a mess though so watch out.

*EDIT: make SURE the sand its completely dry, it should all flow through your fingers likes its been cooking in the sun all day. Im pretty sure you have the same blaster I do (different color though) and its has a desiccant bag in a catch container back by the handles. If it starts clogging the desiccant is probably shot (turns into a lump of clay instead of beads) and I couldn't find that stuff anywhere. When it clogged it would always be at the bottom of the tank where you can adjust the amount of sand going through the hose.

Spend an extra buck or two and go with glass beads or media. Play sand is moisture sensitive and also very dusty.
Lay out plastic and you can reuse the stuff also..

Good advice so far  :cheers:  I dont want to use undercoating in there though.

play sand (when turned into dust) is also bad for the human body. use crushed glass.

Business I worked at used a 75% plastic media and 25% glass bead mix to strip parts. That worked really well and it reduced the risk of warping thin metal parts.
Plastic media by itself won't remove rust and using just glass bead alone can bulge a panel in a heartbeat if your to close to it.
The trick is to keep the nozzle moving at all times and don't hold it in one spot.

Use glass. It cost a bit more but does a nice job.

You can por15 whole underside, it wont peel off easy and will seal out any moisture.
