Speed pro 2355 ?

I just tried to order up the Speed pro 2355's for my 440 with Summit Racing.  I need the 60 over and such, they asked me if I was running nitrous or a blower.  I say no.  He tells me these pistons aren't good for a daily driver, that they'll need to be warmed up quite a bit and then said I should talk to the technical dept to get set up with a good configuration.

What gives!?

I've heard the recommendation of these pistons directly and indirectly many times here, they are what I want for my basic street driver.  I'll be taking it out when the wheather is nice (not too often in WA state..)

I'm keeping it pretty basic, not wanting more than 350 HP; I just want to drive the car!

I was looking at the Engle K56 cam and rebuilding the heads to stock specs, nothing too extravagant there.

Talk to somebody else over there, who's a little more knowledgable ?
Only wimps wear Bowties !

I believe that he was simply referring to the fact that they are a Forged piston. Forged pistons are a little sloppy in the hole until they get heated up and start expanding. He probably wanted to steer you in the direction of a Hypereutectic or similar cast style piston for a better fit and longer life with your street application.
I think he was just trying to help you out  :yesnod:   Forged aluminum piston are "nice and trendy", but they are not always the best choice.... and in your case, I would probably agree with what the the salesman was trying to do by connecting you to their Tech Dept. That's just good customer service. Sounds to me as if you had someone "knowledgeable" on the line.

I was in the same boat a few weeks ago.. I went with the 2295's for a little more compression also 60 over..

OK, to add to my frustration; everyone I talk to about my engine says I don't want forged pistons.  That they'll sound like my motor is rattling to death until it's finally warmed up.

Is this the case?

Strange noises scare me............     :icon_smile_big:

Just 6T9 CHGR

I have forged in mine & dont make any noises.... :shruggy:

Ian, like i said in the PM those 2355's are fine. Have the machinist set the piston to wall clearance at .006 and use a Speedpro plasma moly ring set. Have the rods reconditioned and use ARP rod bolts.  :2thumbs:

A balance job on the rotating assembly is highly recommended.  ;)

One thing to remember about these pistons is that, they are very heavy, a lot of mass you are throwing up and down,

Yep, they do weigh the same as a stock cast piston but are much stronger and more forgiving to tuning errors (detonation). The good news is that the rotating asembly will balance out easy. For a mild street build that rpms to 6k max they are fine.  :2thumbs:
