should the column shift go on my 68 rt?
and how hard is it to find a center console with all the brackets to mount it.

what  do you think ?

myk

Column shifts are for 4 door Buicks equipped with "Odd Fire" engines.  I'd say the difficult part of this deal would be converting it to floor shift.  Can you handle that?  I believe they make shells for the floor shift consoles, as for the bracketry I don't know...

Charger-Bodie

Theres nothing wrong with a column shift In my opinion.  :Twocents:
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

Costly my friend....Id stay column shift unless you just gotta have it in the floor.

I love column shift cars, even more so with a bench seat. :-)

UFO

I say leave it on the column.Something different is a good thing.

moparstuart

I love my 69 runner with the bench and the column shifter ,infact i ripped out the junky b&m floor shiter and 70's high backs someone had put in it !
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

I'd get rid of the column shifter. It would definitely cost a pretty penny to convert it to a factory console shift though. You could go with an aftermarket shifter on the floor, maybe a TA Cheetach SCS w/their plastic console? That's what I would do :yesnod: .

terrible one

I would prefer it on the floor myself, but if my Charger was a column shift I'd probably let it be, but then again I'm a broke motherf***er.

If I put this Megashifter in I'll sell you my console brackets and shifter setup if you decide you need some.

JimShine

You will need a full console wiring harness as well, 1968 specific, which I do not believe is fully reproduced. Without it there will be no console lights and no reverse lights.

chargen86

yeah it looks like it going to a very hard and expensive process
what makes it even harder that im in Australia

thanks for you comments

70 Charger RT

I have two R/Ts.  a 69 RT SE and a 70 RT.  BOTH have column shifts and both have buckets and I love it. :Twocents:

I converted mine as part of the recreation process.
It was a pain but it is possible. Just be sure to get all the necessary linkage parts, console brackets, console, column pieces floor shifter stuff and you should be good to go.
Try e-bay.

I hated my column shift....occasionally would hit N or R when street racing, DOH!.....went with a Hurst V-Matic shifter. Although it is possible to modify the column shifter to be like a gate shifter....

Long gone now though......4 speed baby!

Death1970Proof

Nothing like spanking somebody shifting gears through a manual valve body on the column  :o :2thumbs: :icon_smile_big:
