Ways To Kill Trees?

There is a path through the woods by me, which is town property,  that has been undisturbed for a long time and all of the kids in my neighborhood use it to get to another neighborhood. Recently a house the butts up against the path was sold and now there are new owners. Last year, the new owners cut down about 15 trees to extend their backyard and were fined $1000 a tree. This didn't shrink the path, but it pissed off a lot of people. Now they are extending their property even more into the path ,so that there is only enough room in the woods for the path, and are planting little pine trees. They have a back hoe in the woods digging and also ruining the path. My question is, is there something that I can use to discretely kill their new trees and kill some of their grass?

If what they're doing is on their own property, then don't touch them.  But, you imply that they're just deciding to "improve" county land for their own use.  If that's the case, then get the law involved  As far as I know, homesteading is not a legal option anymore.  Bob

Take a knife and cut the bark off the base of the tree the whole way around it about 1 inch wide it wil lkill them. But if they own it leave them alone, changes happen and there isn/t anything you can do some times.

I am a little confused. Is this land where a street or alley was never put in or perhaps a utility easement? If they cut trees down and the city fined them does that mean the trees were on city property or were permits needed to remove the trees first?

Now you say they are planting trees and digging on the same property. If they are doing that and it is city property it really is an issue the city needs to address.

To me it sounds like they are trying to now grow trees to seperate themselves from the pathway. If they are on their own property there is not much you can do and if it is city property about all you can do is notify the city. Otherwise, you may get yourself in trouble.

Why would you want to destroy trees? Better yet, why would you intentionally destroy someone else's property? Both of those solutions seem petty and juvenile to me. If they are on public property then notify the authorities. Damaging your neighbor's property is a sure-fire way to start a feud and you really don't want to live next door to someone who is spiteful, vengeful and doesn't like you. Maybe they'll decide your car is worth less than their trees?

We had some new neighbors (college kids) who had huge parties and people parked in their yard. Rather than moving cars when someone needed to leave, most of them thought it would be ok to cut over our front yard and into our driveway - even when it was wet and/or muddy. My first inclination was to put spikes in the yard but then I thought about what would happen to our property if I ticked off a bunch of drunk college kids. We discussed it with the neighbor but he obviously couldn't stand guard and make sure all his guests behaved. We thought a small fence was a better idea and now our neighbor has matured and is one of the best neighbors we have. Now the fence is just a pain to mow around.

I've always used the method of hiding Asian women in the trees I want saved & not destroyed. If your new neighbor sees them living in them, he'll feel guilty knowing that they'll be homeless if he cuts them down.

I'm having a hard time following this one but I think you want to get in on the tree killing too, but only the new little baby ones belonging to your neighbors?

I can think of no better way to do it than with a 24" bar Husqvarna at 530AM Sunday morning.  The 585XP can hit 115db, so I'd recommend that model.

For grass, I like Roundup. Be sure to leave the empty bottle behind.

Step 2: Piss directly on the offending vegetation.

Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2 as often as possible.

They are gradually take over more and more of city owned wooded are for their own property. The path is at the end of my street. The trees they cut down were on town property and that is why they were fined. Last year when they cut down the trees, they took away from some of the land that kids played in.

I would take it to the city concil and see what they have to say about this issue, as they might be planning on doing something about it already.  If it is occurring on the town's land, they can fine the homeowner more until they get the point and force them to return the land back to the orginal condition with the correct type of trees.  If the problem is on the homeowner's property, then it is a mute point, much like neighbors complaining about which way you mow your grass.  They can not simply take over city land and claim that it is theirs, that is a legal issue that the city will have to deal with.  In my opinion, I would leave the trees alone as that act might just get you a nice fine if it gets traced back to you.  Best off going the higher road in this case......

-Pink is the trees they cut down, they were not allowed to grind down the stumps
-Inside the yellow dashed line is what they are taking now, they moved huge rocks out of the way to do this.

-The brown on the path is mud and tractor tracks from them bringing in the tractor.
-I think it is pretty much everybody's land who butts up to the path. One person who butts up against the path built a fort in the woods, another made some flower beds out of the leaves they clean out of the path. Every winter, I snow blow it. I do not butt up to the path but use it. As long as the path is still usable I believe they can do what they want, this was after city council from the first time since they wanted to buy the land but the city decided to do this.

Bordin34.why not try talking to your neighbors first, and voice your concerns,there could be some facts you're not aware of, perhaps a survey was done and the boundries changed, the town was wrong perhaps, maybe that is their land, perhaps they bought it!, rezoned, who knows, I had a similar problem with neighbors who thought I was on their land,after I purchased the lot, they were concerned with the trees and vegitation I was cutting down, after a survey, the town lines were wrong! I found that their homes were on my land,now their the "nicest" neighbors, not a "peep" out of them!

You have me wondering about a few things. First, I'm not defending the new home owner, I agree that they're tresspassing & destroying public property. Just because it's town property, is the general public legally allowed to use it? You state there is a path & that kids play there, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're supposed to be there. Is it park land, or is it some kind of town easement for drainage & sewage? Maybe a utility easement? There is a difference. Also, if the new owner is digging with a backhoe, he should have called the "Call Before You Dig" number so he doesn't really screw things up. Think ruptured gas or power lines.

It may be only that the new home owner is someone who prefers a landscaped look over a naturally wooded one. (I'd rather have the wooded one, but to each their own.) Another reason could be the same as what I had to do, clear out & clean up the edges of my property to reduce a huge tick problem. Ticks are a big issue in my area, & both my wife & daughter have had Lyme Disease. If you clear out brush, saplings, & leaves, it drastically reduces the places ticks inhabit. Of course the new owners may just be trying to expand their own space for their own reasons, but did you or anyone ask them?

What they are doing right now might be related to the fines they had to pay. Like having to restore the area they cut down & replant. Seriously though, destroying whatever they plant might sound like a funny topic, but it sure isn't worth doing it & making permanent enemies. Also, think about how freakin' stupid you'd look & feel if you got caught doing it. If you do use any of the above ideas others posted, make sure you don't make a video & post it on youtube.

There was a highway worker some years ago that was fired. He retaliated by drilling holes in the trees along the highway and gave them a shot of battery acid....killed a lot of them...

More than likely, I will wait until he is finished to see what exactly he is doing. I believe he is allowed to use the property as long as he doesn't block the path but I am not sure. He moved two 7x4x6foot boulders off the property that he is taking over. The path is an actual dirt path that the town owns.
