Key in the dash or key in the column?  This has to be at least as important as chocolate or vanilla so how about it folks, which one is preferable to the other?

In the column, definitely. An average aftermarket gauge could otherwise occupy the space that dash switch takes up.

i prefer dash, ONLY because it's different. all cars are on the column today, having one on the dash gives it more of a vintage/old school feel

I like the dash too personally.  I don't think you could get much of an aftermarket guage into that little somewhat hidden spot where the key goes either.

Big Lebowski

I like column key but I'll vote the dash key because the dash key is easier to change out. Remember the '69 switch is fatter than the '68 switch. Don't buy the wrong one. :slap:

Of course the column gives you all of those nifty anti-theft lock features that no one has mentioned yet.

BROCK

70 & 71 are my faves so it's column for me + locking wheel feature is good :2thumbs:

terrible one

I chose column due to the locking mechanisms, etc. plus I just like it there for some reason. Or maybe I'm tired of on the dash. . . my '01 Lincoln has it in the dash!  :shruggy:

myk

Dash.  Just like the Viper (?).  Or like some other performance cars.  Of course, if my '69 had its key on the column I wouldn't have to fork out hundreds of dollars for a 1 year only ignition switch...

I prefer the dash.  Can't really explain why, though, because I'm not sure, myself.

In the dash to have something different just as Trav stated above.....BTW even today a Porsche still has it in the dash i believe...

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

I prefer in the dash also. A lot of newer cars have went back to this in recent years. My Grand Cherokee even has it now.

Well I figure that you knew my vote before I even replied. I have to say DASH. Its out of personal preference, as the 2 best Chargers ever produced are both 1969's, that means ya gotta like everything about them right?

69*F5*SE

I prefer the dash.  Something about it is just so much cooler the column.

bamadukefan02

I think in the dash is cool for the old school quality.  People are talking about new cars that have the key in the dash, a friend of mine has a newer Range Rover with the key in the center console.  How is that for different?

This Charger right here is a one of none, that means none before it, none to come.

Some of the new cars have those electronic pass keys too.  BMW has one that you plug into the dash much like sticking a memory stick into a usb port and then you push a starter button on the dash.  Someone else (forget which mfg) has a model with a proximity key.  As long as the thing is in the region of the starter button on the dash you're good to go.  You can even just leave it in your pocket.

There's also some German car (Audi I think?) I saw 10 or so years ago, that had it in the center console. I thought that was different.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Probably a Saab (from Sweden) They have it on the console for years but not just for show, as in a regular column the lock blocks the steering column.
But Saab put the lock in the console to lock the gearbox and they proven it to be unstealable in this way.....Or maybe nobody stole them cuz they were ugly cars......dunno.
