I've been putting rear brakes on my 69 charger and cant figure out how to adjust them. I tried to adjust the right rear and the star wheel fell out into the drum. Someone told me that it needed automatic adjusters and thats what holds them in. Is this true?? When I took the  brakes off, it didn't have automatic adjusters on in the first place. I didn't have any trouble at all with the left rear, the star wheel didn't fall out. If anybody knows please let me know or if you could post a picture of what it is supposed to like that would be great. Thanks.

Take a look at the link below.  It covers rebuilding of Bendix style drum brakes which are the most common type out there on older cars.  It sounds like you are missing some parts.

If the link doesn't work, try googling it.  I used, Bendix brakes rebuilding pictures I think.

R/T cars had 11" MANUALLY adjustable brakes as standard equipment....   The lo-po cars with the 10" drums had automatic adjusters

If a 69 charger was ordered with front disc brakes, did it have 10 inch or 11 inch rear drums?

You can buy adjuster parts kits and retrofit them .    Don't worry - It's OK...  the numbers police don't like pulling drums  :icon_smile_cool:
