I have my 440 with MSD dist. timed at 35*. I am using the blue bushing with 1 light silver and 1 light blue spring. I have it timed for 14* initial timing. It seems to diesel when I turn the ignition off. I am wondering if I should back off the initial timing and change the blue bushing to the silver bushing.

Extend your timing curve, thereby lowering your inital and keeping your total the same.

How do I extend it? Do I change the bushing?

What's the model number on the distributer, and I will see.
on a standard spring-curve distrubuter you can enlarge the slots your springs allow the weights to move in..
On an electronic set-point wide-points distributer its handled by the control module, and then you'll just have to read the documentation.

What's the rpm @ idle , i'd guess around 1100 rpm , maybe drop the idle speed.

Try the black bushing with one heavy silver/one light silver spring , should give you 18 initial/36 total , should be ok regards kickback.

MSD 8546. I want to keep it at 35* total timing because I get the most power. It idles at 950.

Ok , 17 initial/35 total. :icon_smile_big:

I hooked up the idle solenoid this morning, which I always had, and took it out for a blast. So far no dieseling. I am not going to replace the bushing or springs yet because I like to see if this cures it first.

I'd still throw the black bushing in there and time it for 35* total which should give you 17* initial.  ;)
