this is going to make me sound like such an idiot but, how can i put more "ponys" under the hood without resulting to something drastic like turbochargeing it? :icon_smile_tongue:

terrible one

I'd start with a well thought out combo of carb, intake, cam, and exhaust . . . that ought to wake it up quite noticeably!

electronic ignition to start... MSD the best option with of course matching MSD coil at least... Chrome Mopar ECU is good too Those are what I have experienced, maybe pertonix or some others will be good too... some ppl will tell you better than me, but that is a good start and easy to make without big job

stock 400 has low compression 8-1 to 8.5-1 , leanburn distibuters and open chambered heads.

but with a few good mods can be made to run well even with low compression.

back in the early 90s me and my dad took a bone stoch 73 charger se. and did minor back yard mods .
it base lined in stock trim weighing about 4100lbs 16.5 1/4 at New England drag way in epping NH with minor mods no change in compression and never removeing the heads we got it down to flat 14.0 in street trim on street tires.

it was a very modest build up mild cam, duel plain manifold ,headers ,recurved distibuter, cheater manual valve body ,3000 stall and 3.91 gears

340 can perform very well with the right mods thier are quit a few A-bodys up here running 9s with small block power so the potentail is definatly there. :2thumbs:
