68 was a white ball Inland shifter.  Doubt the 69 was different from that.

the switch to hurst was made in 68 as well wasn't it? Anyone have an idea when the switch was made from Inland to Hurst?

According to the Year One catalog the woodgrain knob was for mid 68 to 69.

There is in my '69 Charger. But, then again, I am not a stickler for factory correctness.

The switch to Hurst was part way through the 68 model year I believe.

I like to keep things correct and original if I can.  If I drop a 4 spd in my 69 I'm going with the pistol grip even though it's for the 70 model year.  It's just to beautiful to pass up.  My buddy said you can easily swap the handles from 69 to 70 .
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Your buddy is wrong... sort of. ;)

The early 68s had the Inland shifter. This was switched to the Hurst shifter with the round handle in mid-year. The same shifter and handle were used in 69. The pistol grip appeared in 70 but the handle is flat all the way up into the grips. The shifter mechanism itself is different as well (ok, one lever) to keep from bashing your hand into the dash. You *can* "easily swap the handles" and use the earlier shifter mechanism but the throw will be wrong and you may end up with a busted dash or knuckles.

No. At least I'm 99% sure that it isn't. Moving to the Tech area to get more responses.

Interesting.....

I'm looking for a shifter to and I have no idea what to look for to have a correct one for the 69 model year. OK the shifter you can see what you have there.
But most people don't know the difference in what they're selling.
Is there a way to spot the difference between Inland/Hurst /and the pistol grip shifter?

I was also been told that the inland model wasn't that great too or was it the other way around???
Or are these things not worth to buy used and should i surf over to Brewers' site? (New shifters are $$$$$)

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

I have used a '70 pistol grip handle in a '68-'69 B body and your knuckles get uncomfortably close to the dash (might actually touch and a 2-3 slam shift).

The '70 shift mechanism had longer levers to shorten the throw in the cockpit, that's the best way to go if you can find one.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

This picture is a 1970 console pistol grip shifter that I had in my '69 for a while. It has the earlier mechanism and I never hit the dash with my hand but the throw is longer.

It is a one year only piece. The non console pistol grip shifter looks about the same but does not have the big bend in it to clear the console.

71-74 pistol grips will not work right as they are short. The only one that is even close is a 71-74 bench seat shifter and they are very hard to find too.

I thought the 1970 shifters were being reproduced now.

This is the 68-69 Hurst console shifter. I was told that there is a slight variation between "Hurst" script on the 68 and 69 shifters. They both will work fine though.
