Welcome to the site!

There was an oddball light green available in 68 as well. The 68 Charger that I had when I was 16 was originally that color but it was painted flat black by the time I got it.

Yes that color has always stumped me.  They had it painted a few years before I bought it, and it was actually a pretty decent paint job as you can see it still shines and this is like 33 years later! I have no idea why they changed the color.

As I said, I swear I saw new mid 70s Valiants, or some other Chryco products painted that, it was not a popular color.  I'll bet that they saw this color on a new car at a dealership and thought they liked it.  The timing would have worked out.  However, whenever I print out paint chips from the period I never find anything really close.  But again, with monitors and printers being a little off, who knows.

I think another reason the car is in such good shape is it was originally bought by a woman, and she babied it.  When she married the guy who I mostly talked to, he was always cleaning it, and even helped me readjust the carb like 6 months after I bought it when I bumped into him at the market.  He was a nice guy.  Although, I finally had to kick out the lousy little Holley 500 he had, for some reason, decided to replace the Carter with.  I went through tons of Holleys and finally have a, likely not correct, Carter unit back on it.

One other bit of trivia.

We have a "Spring Fling" Mopar meet out here every year, and I finally started to go to them a few years ago (why did I ever wait, is unclear).  I am walking along and  I look up, and there is a 1968 Charger, IN THE EXACT ODD COLOR, with a white top, almost exactly like mine except for a black stripe around the tail.  I almost dropped my soda.  I ran and ran to get to that car, but he just kept pulling ahead and left the lot.  I could not believe there is a near clone of my car running around SoCal somewhere, what are the chances of that.

Oh, and if interested, I have some interesting pics of that event, including a 4 door factory hemi car!

Weird color scheme revealed.

Just now figured it out.  It's J-3 Meadow Green.  It was available in 1972 and 1973.  Here is a Satellite with the color.

The author is wrong about it being a one year color.  But it works well into the time frame.  They likely saw the new 73s with the color and liked it, maybe the original paint was beat.  I bought the car in 1978 and there was not a scratch on it, so they took good care of it.

Ewww. Yeah, definitely more yellow and less metallic than the 68 color I was thinking of.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Here's something the experts might want to weigh in on.

I always thought these body side moldings were added by the owner or were some sort of accessory.  A recent decode online of my fender tag seemed to pick up "30: Body Belt Moldings".  I don't remember seeing this on another.  It is hard to tell in the pic, but the vinyl/plastic is textured similar to the vinyl roof.  I have only had to reglue one section back on before.  I just thought it odd that it might actually be an option for the car.

Finally, here is the Progressive Mag I got years ago.  I had first replaced the rear wheels with Western Mags (remember those) and I could not find any years later to do the fronts.  Yes, I was one of those guys with mismatched rear and front rims for years.  The car came with all original Magnum 500 wheels--unfortunately, I ended up ruining all the originals one way or the other.

The belt molding is the molding that runs right below the side glass.........those body side moldings are not original, Sorry.

By the way WELCOME!!

661, which decodes as "Monotone Dark Green Metallic", and the 1968 paint chip chart I have states 66-1 "Dark Green Poly".
