My brother bought a used car a few weeks ago. Last month the frame started breaking apart. After inspecting it, discovered someone had wrapped the rusted through frame rail with aluminum foil, painted it, then covered it with grease so it matched the rest of the frame. Hope he can sue to get money back from the Scumbucket. Ray

Unless it was documented as rust free I don't think he will have much luck, at least with the court system.

Ouch.  Sucks.  Douchebags are out there every day.

He must have bought a pretty old ride to have rust-through in the frame.  Maybe he could just plate it up with some steel stock welded on, and drive it for a while?

I hope it wasn't some kind of classic car that he bought for resto purposes.  That's a whole other situation.

Actually the car is only a few years old, I can make a frame piece for it. In Michigan here, cars have a nasty habit of rusting from the inside out. I had an 8 year old car break in half before when we put it up on a hoist!  We will take a vacation to the desert the next time he needs a car. Ray

my buddy just bought a 01 chevy pickup that the frame is starting to become VERY pitted from rust...maybe even afew pinholes...
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

My previous truck was approximately 10 years old when we had to weld the frame back together and replace the rear shock mounts. The most probable cause is road salt. The new liquid stuff they put down for snow/ice is supposed to be many times more caustic. I've heard of serious rust in as little as three years.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.
