Not to hijack this topic but is boring to .40 such a big risk??
I bought a bare 440 shortblock that was done .30 over already but is scratched so needs to be bored over again to .40 (or more...).
The guy  who sold it to me told me that would'nt be a problem but reading al this fraidence of boring to even .40 not to talk even about going to .60..... Well, I'm starting to grow a "sacked" feeling in my stomach...

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

.040 should be fine as long as the block checks out. My 440 is bored .040 over and it has been running like that since 1989. :icon_smile_big:

Did it just run right out or drip out?  Break cleaner is a pretty good solvent and might have a lighter density than fuel. You can use break cleaner to break rusted nuts off bolts or clean off nasty carbon because it can get into tight places. Run the same test with a cup of gas and see if it runs out.  I dont know if you can get valves 100% air tight because they dont have a gasket.

:Twocents:

It took awhile for it to come out like about 2 min. After a long time it would have dripped but i didn't let it set that long just being wet around the edge of the valve was enough for me.

Just an update,  The block is bored 60 over and checked out to be good for 60 over. I ended up just buying the speedpro 2295 again. I realize they aren't the best choice for those closed chambered heads but they were a decent price compared to others and definaltly was alot cheaper than a custom piston, and were available when I needed them and the compression ratio was where I was wanting it to be.  All other speedpro pistons are on back order until further notice from every place I called. Now, I am waiting for the valve seats to be touched up and the crank and pistons to come back from pittsburg crank, where it is being rebalanced / checked.   ;)

Thanks for the update brother, keep us posted   :popcrn:

The 2295's are fine for this build....don't sweat it  ;)

Sorry about your motor, I also had a set of rockers fail and mess my 440 engine. The rocker I was using was the Crane Gold. The problem with all aluminum rockers is they are not design for street use and over time they fatigue and terrible things happen. Switch to the cast iron adjustable and never worry again.

What was your engine build you were running when the rocker failed?

mally69 - sorry to hear about all the problems. Thanks for the thread and pictures, it prompted me to replace my rocker assembly with comp cams magnum roller rockers 1321-16.
I think they will work much better. If it wasn't for this thread I think I would be making one of my own. Again thanks.

:2thumbs:   I looked into the same rockers, but they didnt have them in a 1.6, which is what I wanted..  I love the looks of those comp magnums. My dad just bought a set for his 327.  :slap: I know its a chevy.. glad I don't own it

mally69

Ok here's the update. I just got the rotating assembly assembled..

mally69

Heres the rockers. I assembled them on the head just so I could see if there were any problems..  The roller is centered side to side BUT the forward and backwards is slighly more towards the back I hope you can see that in the pic. Its not riding the very edge but its between the middle and the edge if you know what I mean. Is this going to be a big problem?? If so how is it to be corrected?     ::) :eyes:  ..

mally69

last one..

mally69

Nevermind about the roller to valve position that I was worried about. I bolted in a solid lifter just to see the motion of the roller vs. the valve tip and it moves inward toward the center of the valve tip as the rocker pushes the valve open. Its just opposite as I thought. Im good to go  I got a bit worried for a min.

:smilielol:  Its Pennsylvania what ya expect.

When file fitting my rings (( secondary compression ring )) I got to bullshitting with a friend and ended up filing one to about 40 thousandths instead of 22 thousandths. I ordered another ring set for that piston so I can change it. What do you guys think about it. Would it be ok to use it or not, I already ordered another, but would it hurt to run that one being that big?

Inmo a .040 gap is waaay too big....even for a KB hyper piston.  :P

Ok I started to mock up my valvetrain and I am going to need new pushrods. The pushrods that I have are 3/8 and when I set my preload on my lifter I end up with 5 threads below the rocker which looks like this picture I have posted below. Also on my intake side my pushrods rub the head so bad that I can't get my ball on the adjuster to go into the cup on the pushrod, so those are going to need reemed out. And on my exhuast side they slighly rub the bottom of the hole. If my pushrods were skinnier then the exhuast side will clear but the intake side in no way going to clear.

Whats your thoughts on this.  :popcrn:
