to wrap headers or not

first engine i ever ran with headers and things do get toasty under the hood while the thermo never goes above 190 degrees..... so question is to wrap the headers in insulating tape or to just live with it.... opinions and people who have wrapped theirs.... all are appreciated....

Depends on useage in my opinion. I wouldnt use it on a street car, because it looks crappy.  Drag cars don't get hot enough for the short bursts they run. I need it on my road car - otherwise I melt my shoes!

 I was thinking about it, then I talked with some friend's that have used them. Have you ever seen a engine that never leaked anything that was running?

Was told yep, they lower the under hood temp, but like to catch fire when they soak up some oil.

Been on fire one time, so I passed.

If you needed them for a performce application then fine but for most street cars, no way.  Just for the reasons mentioned, they look like hell, can trap oil and burn.   They also can hold moisture and help your headers to corrode that much faster.  As for underhood temps, the header wrap makers and retailers seem to be the only ones who hump that line.  Not that I don't think they can do that, I just think it isn't likely necessary in most cases.  If your underhood temps are so high they are causing you concern enough to wrap headers, something else may be wrong.  imo

I plan to use Jet-hot I think in Ill.?  I have heard a lot of good about them..... I would certainly like to know more from people as I only have spoken to 3 people that love it..... maybe good to hear a different opinion.

 DFS68 used TTI ceramic coated header's on his POS 68 Charger. Dave, hope it is no longer a POS. Never felt any real heat from them.

I always thought that headers naturally made underhood temperatures that much hotter.  I've always wanted to get headers but don't want to deal with melted plug boots, wires, harnesses, engines, etc, lol...
