Slight of hand?

The new 2008 Dodge Challenger.
At various car shows and in the public relations pictures,  the rear tire looks like it fits the rear wheel opening.
Maybe two inches of open space above it for clearance.

Then it comes to my neck of the woods, (Edmonton) and it looks like somebody slapped a set of airshocks onto it! And the rear wheel looks miniscule too.
Bottom line...it looked terrible. And what's with the "sneeze guards"?
What went wrong?

That can be adjusted.

The tires do look the same size though.................maybe they did jack it up a little to get the 'stance'.

That looks awful. What were they thinking?

Those hard-to-see trip hazards are an ambulance chaser's dream.

I'd consider that "problem" pretty minor considering the overall product. Putting it in perspective, how much time have we spent discussing the numerous design problems of the '06 Magnum sedan? By comparison, I'd say the Challenger is virtually problem free.

I'm thinking you're probably correct!
There's nothing I hate more than people saying one thing, then doing another.
The four-door Charger is a case in point.
However, I've been pulling for the whole Challenger biz ever since the first concept picture hit the web.
I realize that in reality, the new Challenger is a situation where the designers compromised a lot by putting a skin over their existing product.
I'm holding my breath to see one on the street, where I can judge it for it's merits in real-time.
Make mine FC7 too.
