Well after five years I am finally at the point of getting my 68 Charger on the road.  Its been a long and very expensive road.  And now time to protect it.  Has anyone had any experiences with the companies that specialize in clasic car insuranc such as Hargerty, Heacock etc.?  Looking for good and bad stories

American collectors insurance here $100 a year for $15,000 agreed value, I've had them since 1998 so far no claims :icon_smile_cool:.  They were recommended to me by Dave Ferro of Totally Auto. Here is a previous thread. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,2996.msg37006.html#msg37006

What have you been wiating for? I've had mine in the garage for about four years and it's been insured the whole time (Hagerty).

Hagerty's.  I've been with them 14 years, one claim, handled perfectly.  I just raised a couple of car values.

Their flatbed road service is not a bargain if you already have AAA Plus. I've used my AAA gold card to request a flatbed and actually got hauled to my destination car show because it was within 100 miles.  Fixed the car there and drove home.

They are the best buy in my area for collector car insurance.

I copied & pasted my reply from another topic, it also has links to other threads if you want to research & read more on the subject.

I've used Condon & Skelly, (an underwriter or agent for MetLife Auto, & formerly for The St. Paul Insurance Co.) since about 1988. It's antique/classic car insurance & has some of the typical limitations on the usage, like mileage being 2500 per car, not driven to work, & locked in a garage. They now have street rod coverage & allow modifications to the cars. I've never had to file a claim so I don't know how good or bad they will be at handling one, but I've never heard anyone complain about them either.

http://www.condonskelly.com/

Rates hardly ever changed unless I increased the car's value. What I have right now is the following.

'68 Charger (project) value at $6500+/-
'69 Satellite Convertible, value at $7000+/-
'70 Road Runner, value at $20,000
'71 Scamp, value at $6500+/-
'71 Barracuda (project) value at $8500

The total premium for $48,500 worth of coverage is $406 for the year, & a no brainer if you ask me.

There's been a few topics on here already, you may want to read over them.

Hagerty here, Best thing is since i have a clean drivers license they have no problem with me driving the car (im only 19). Where as, alot of the other companies require 10 or so years of previous driving experience.

I'm with J.C. Taylor on my charger, road runner and the motor home... when there has been a problem they really came through...

Is there any of these companies that do not require your car to be in a locked garage or will insure a person under 25? Hagerty will not insure me because my car is not in an "inclosed locked garage" in their words. I have tried a few others but they will not insure any person under 25.

American Collectors Ins. requires a locked garage, ten years of driving experience and no more than 1,200 miles a year.

Hagerty here, too. You just can't use the insured vehicle as a daily driver, it has to be garaged, but I have no mileage limit.

Theres nothing wrong with the shelter its just not enclosed. I guess its nothing a few sheets of plywood and a box of self-tapping screws couldnt fix.

Hagerty here.

My Charger was insured by Hanover. They were pricey, but had unlimited mileage. When my Charger was damaged, they put a guy on my case to keep costs to a minimum and the guy was very picky about what they would buy. It took 6 months to get my car done and back.

We had an issue with Lee1 enroute to its unveiling. Hagerty asked us to submit the bill and immediately paid no questions asked. After that experience, I switched to Hagerty. To top it all off, my rate is about 25% of what it was through Hanover and is actually insured for more and still has unlimited mileage.

Another vote for Hagerty here....also a good claim experience.

I've been using "Grundy" for a couple years now. Low cost on agreed value and no milage limits. Also, automatically raises the cars value by 3% a year for you but if you want to take it higher, they will talk it over with you. I raised my agreed value and they went along with no problem. No claims as yet and hopefully never.
