Checking for a bad lifter

 I talked with a few people and the SOB that own's the shop where is son (never called me back) did the 440 the last time. Bad lifter keeps coming up. No knock at idle but bring up the RPM's some and it back.

With it not having a rattle at idle, how do you check for a bad lifter? Cranking up idle is a given, but then what? If it has to be running, I have some stock covers I can cut up.

if the cam or lifter is really chewed up the pushrod may be loose , other than that you can either pull the intake & visually inspec the cam & lifters or use a magnet & pull the lifters up through the head to check them without pulling the intake
