In any case, I would have to say my ideal place would be where I can wake up in the morning, walk to the deli and pick up a REAL bagel for breakfast, then maybe have lunch at a midlle eastern joint and grab some Vietnamese or Thai for dinner.

Every once in a while, I want to get my hair cut by a REAL Italian barber and then grab a midnight snack at any one of the roach coaches or restaurants that sell late night food.

I want a place where the arts are well funded so I can hit the theater, opera, or just a good art gallery.

I want to fall asleep to the sound of sirens.

I want to live in the big city.

and find youre "A" number one, top of the heap, king of the hill?

actually you can pretty much do that in L.A...except for the Italian barber. I do know some kick ass 24 hour Pho places.

Yeah, a decent sized flat in SF is 3K per month minimum...and if you want a home there with a decent sized (1 car) garage you'll need about 1.2+ mil to START thinking about buying...and even then GOOD LUCK. Most homes that are nice enough to have a garage you can actually fit a Charger into AND be able work on it in there are going for 2 mil PLUS these days. The California Real Estate market is way out of control.

I met a guy four years ago who lived in North beach and he was renting a garage, one small spot for one car and i do mean small,.. for $600 Per Mo. that price is im sure, up to a grand or even more now... none of those old gold mining era homes have a garage, some have a small tool shed,..   you wouldn't belive the rents! hell there are few streets there, No on street parking and you gotta lug yur groceries up hundreds of steep stairs... definatly motorcycle territory...

Chris, you and the family need to come visit out here sometime.  Plenty of wide open space and green     Mountains for skiing, beach, high desert, lakes & rivers...and scenery that is second to NONE.

I'm where I want to be.   This time of year I'm actually looking forward to the rain, gotta have in order to be so beautiful up here.

The wife wants to stay here because of the grandkids. I say they can move with us. Or, if I find the place that I just can't do without in another state. I'll buy that place and just leave her behind. After of course buying her a place in town.  I wouldn't make her move in with my son in law. He's too nice a guy.

Sorry 'bout that.  Up here is Vancouver, Washington.  We're right across the river from Portland, Oregon.  I used to run the 48 states during my short lived over the road driving career and fell in love with this area.
I wanted to retire up here eventually, just didn't plan on moving so soon. Since I got hurt, I'd really like to be back close to some of my family, in Texas, Kansas.  Go figure.....

DropTop, I live in Grass Valley/Nevada City area...basically they are twin cities. There is also a bunch of Hot Rod fabrication that goes on up here. And let me tell you, this town could use another good body shop. I guarantee that if you opened up a shop and joined the Roamin' Angels Car Club you'd have 10 restorations withing a couple of months. The ONE body shop up here that these car club guys trust takes a year at minimum and they get sick of their cars just sitting in the shop and collecting dust. There is definitely room for improvement...a better shop would be a huge improvement. And with your experience and track record it wouldn't take long for them to catch on. Of course, I'm sure you could probably get work just about anywhere you lived, but the bonus is that this place is beautiful...

I can honestly say I have been in 47 out of 50 states, alaska and hawaii are part of that 47.   I would live in northrern cali, would stay here in washington, liked maine, but I think montana is where its at.  I had fun in alaska but I was a kid and what kid doesnt have fun when you can play in the snow 9 months out of the year.

I've lived in Florida since August of 1994. This has been a very hot year and by far the most bothersome for me.     I love the winters here as they are very much like our summers in Upstate New York.. (Except we have sunny days)...    No rusty cars. No snow plows. No ice storms. Just lots of hurricanes and lightning. Oh, I nearly forgot about the occasional 30* night... 


Don't get me wrong, I like it here.. But I would love it if I could afford a few acres and a big air conditioned shop.....

SW near the mountains , Not Cali,,, or Georga Or the Carolinas as a second choice , somewhere with 2 weeks of winter & 9 months of summer instead of the opposite & where there are lots of American Mopars to work on .. I grew up & lived most of my life in Rhode Island. In 1995 I moved to Las Vegas. June thru August sucked, unless your a lizard who likes to lay out on a rock and Bake your bones! Anyway, got divorced in 99'. After living in my truck for a few years, I hooked up with my new wife, who happens to own a small horse ranch in Northern Idaho, just south of Coure D' Lane. This is truly God's Country. Our closest neighbor is over a mile away. Mountains, rolling hills, Thick forest, the beauty of mother nature all around us for miles. I am truly blessed.


BTW, I have a 60'x100' building to work on the cars! Did I mention that I was truly blessed?
