My Charger has been off the road and unregistered for the last 4 years. I can finally start driving it again this week, but I need to get the tag for it.

I let it drop since there was no reason to keep payng for 4 years, but what do I do now? Do I go down to the courthouse with the last registration papers and tell them it's been off the road this whole time? Do I get charged any kind of fee? It was last registered in my name.
And there's no titles in AL for anything older than 75 if that matters.

So what do I do?

here in calif. they will charger ,.. sorry,.. you back registration only for each of the years it wasn't paid but not the Calif. road use fees. the older the car the cheaper the registration is so that's the good news...

In Ohio you just go get a new tag - it's not complicated. The best thing to do is call the DMV and ask.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I might be able to help. Just spent a couple months trying to obtain a Florida title for a Alabama non title car and spent many a wonderful moment on the phone with Alabama DMV and thier recoreds dept. Your stillin Alabama so that makes it easier right from the start.
If you were the last registered owner in the last 10 years just take your old registration downto the  DMV and thats it. If your drivers license
matches the name on the registration they issue a new one. If you do not have a copy of the old registration you have to request one fron thier records department 3.00. They only keep registration records for 10 years then they are purged. Thats were my problem fell.  The GTX conv had bounced around several owners and hjd not been registered for 15 years.  There # is 334-242-9000 and teh site is

In Texas They will only charge you for the new tag.
You have to tell them why the car hasn't been registered and it's that easy.
I guess They figure if You were driving it You would have got a ticket by now.

I live in Huntsville AL, just take your registration, and tell themit has been off the road while you are rebuilding, you will probably have to sign an affidavit, but you shouldn't have any trouble.

Yeah, it shouldnt be too hard. My Charger hasnt been registered since the mid 80's and there was no problems registering it into my name. Plates should be the same way..easy as pie

You shouldn't have any hassles, just bring your paperwork along and tell them.  They should just give you a tag after checking and your good to go.

Well I just got back. All I had to do was have someone write a very informal note giving the description and VIN number of the car saying it has been off the road this whole time. ANYONE can write the note but the owner, so I got my girlfriend to write it. Thats all it took, the records were still in the computer. Yay for me.

Just got insurance also, so as soon as the mechanic gets done with my carbs, we ridin baby! :drive:
