69 Charger headlights won't work

What I thought was going to be a easy fix turns into a head-scratcher....

I noticed the other day that the headlights on my '69 Charger won't work.   All the other lights (IP lights, tail, etc.) come on ok.   But the headlights - both hi and lo beams - won't come on.  Oh and by the way there have been no mods done to the wiring- it's original wiring.

Long story short- I traced through the wiring to the headlight hi-beams and found that I was getting 12v all the way to the headlight itself.  I also verified with a continuity tester that the headlight has a ground.    However the headlight still won't come on even after pulling and replugging in the various connectors in the wiring harness.     The one odd thing that I've noticed is that the hi-beam indicator is always on regardless of whether I've set the floor switch to high or low beam.

Has anyone seen this happen before?    What did you find the cause to be?

Thanks!
David

You have juice at the bulb terminal? Did you test the bulbs/lights?

I didn't check all 4 headlamps, but the hi-beam that I did check was getting 12V at it's terminal.    I unplugged that lamp from the wiring harness and checked the lamp's continuity and it checked out good.

The wierd thing is that all 4 headlamps aren't working- I'm wondering if I have a bad ground somewhere.   I did check the physical condition of the two grounds that run from the headlight harness to the 2 screws on the radiator support and they seemed to be in good shape.   Even if I was getting a bad ground I would think that the headlights would at least light up very dimly.

make sure , the both the park/turnsignals are grounded well & the two black ground wires are to shiny metal on the core support , had a similar problem , as the problem was the lamps in the front panel was not grounded good enough

Might be a few days before I can get around to checking that, but I'll do that and let you know what I find.

Thanks!

Did you check the highbeam switch on the floor? If its unpluged i beleive it wont work. Mine unplugs by just stepping on it too hard.
life's a garden, dig it.

If your getting 12v to the headlamp bulb plug and you were to put a test light from that terminal to ground, it would have to light.  So it has to be the wires running back to a ground.  I think Chris (mod) site has a wiring diagram, follow the path back to ground. :shruggy:
