Original General Lee

For those of you who have always wanted an ORIGINAL General Lee, heres your chance. Wait, let me re-phrase that...for those of you who have always wanted half of an ORIGINAL General Lee

"General Lee #4 began its life as a 1969 Dodge Charger Vin. #XP29H9B430771. #4 was an original General Lee sent by Warner Brothers for use in the 2005 film. When it arrived at Elia Popov's shop, J.E.M. F/X in Commerce, California, it was wearing its original General Lee paint but had been used as a jump car during the tv series so it was buckled, bent and quite rough. Since they didn't have an interest or the time to restore the car, #4 was made into a "process buck" and was cut up to serve as a close-up filming shell. It initially wore Pre-Cooter paint but late in the production was cut up further and given a full Post-Cooter paint and interior, having everything aft of the rear window cut away."

The only jumped car they got from WB would have been the wrecked GL from the second "Reunion/Hollywood" show in about 2000. 


If it's any consolation about seeing it cut up, that car body was absolutely fragged when I saw it back in 2004.

Aluminum tape & bondo all over the rear half of the sheetmetal, a very crude rollcage inside cutting through the dash, and then the jump damage had totally wiped out the unibody's shape.  (I'm not kidding about the damage.  The left door/quarter skin panel gap was touching at the bottom but those two panels were about an inch apart up by the door handle.) 

It had been a yellow 383/727 car before WB bought it in 1996.

IMHO THAT WAS restorable... I have seen them worst and getting restored! ( IE the number one GL )

Yeah, I agree it was restorable.  Give it some serious time on a frame machine & all new sheetmetal on the rear half of the car.

Without any original-TV-series history, I'm not sure it ever would have gotten it though.

At least it maintained its legacy and went through the movie...I think I have pics of this car somewhere before it went through some parts removal...
