I'm on this modelling site...I was amazed when I saw this '69. It looks alot like my '69 when we got it! Minus the vinyl top :o

I think doing accurate weathering & body damage is often more difficult than making them nice.

does anyone know how they replicate the rust like that, and the ripped top?

Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

Well on the 69 R/T barn find I'm doing, I've been trying out new things. For instance, I made the top ripped on mine too. I took abit of toilet paper, paint the colour of the roof over it so that holds it to the roof and then I mixed a tanish/grey coloured paint and put a bit on the toilet paper, it looks good! The rust, I've heard if you use a small power drill and drill some holes in the quarters and then use a knife to do abit more work and then buy a certain colour paint, it'll look good.

Yeah, rust complicated to do well.  You have to dremel out the backside of the plastic behind the area first (grind it thinnner) before you drill the actual holes.  That way the panels don't look like thick plastic around the edges of the holes.


I think collision damage is the hardest thing to do really well.  Making heat-bent plastic look like crumpled sheetmetal is a real challenge.  There are a couple of effective ways to do it but they're not easy.

I actually did a pretty damn good job with a plastic General Lee jump car model I built during the summer. The damage was pretty good. I was impressed. :yesnod:
