unless you want to bitch for years after that you paid over sticker,i am a new car dealer and have had 15 people call me to sell their ordered ones for 10 grand over.if the market is that f###ed up what do you think someone will pay retail?

my point here guys is dont blame anyone but the consumers for the demand on these, remember when pt cruisers were doing the same thing?now you can get one for invoice minus rebates,so anyone with any common sence will wait a year or so,or pay what the market dictates-and for the record im getting one for the store and sold it for 5000 over msrp to the owners uncle, because that was HIS offer

The most funny thing of all is these guys are paying WAY over sticker and drooling over a Creeder  :smilielol:  The same car that everyone here despises . You can dress up a retard in a Tux but they are still a retard.  :slap:

You'll be blamed for all the consumer stupidity anyway, so you'll have to deal with it.   :D

I know exactly what you mean & don't hold the dealer fully responsible, but you do have to remember that a lot of dealerships don't have any problem with putting a second window sticker on a car with what they call "Market Value Surcharge". The sticker that has their own letterhead, with their own new price. The way I see it, is that the new sticker was taped to the window by the dealership, not the dopey customer with extra money to burn. That tells me that the dealership is just testing the market to see how much profit they can make, & that they can sleep well at night doing it. You know damn well anyone who's sold something to a sucker for more than what it's worth, wants to sit down & have a drink with others to laugh about it.

Dealers have room to move if they want but they usually don't have to because if you don't buy it someone else will.  Good job on giving the heads up Andy.  :2thumbs:  Even a used car like this a dealer won't have to worry about moving before the 60-90 day flooring line runs out.  I would imagine even at auction these cars will be going for 2k-3k over book on average, maybe even more.  :scratchchin: I don't think there will be any smoking deals on these cars for at least 2 years.  I'll find out what they bring at auction when a repo goes through later on.   Chuck........

good point, I have a friend that not only did that with the tp cruiser when they came out, afterwards he had to have the chevy SSR and is now so far upside down on it with the $25k balloon payment plan he would be better turning it back into the dealer and then repurchasing it used for what the thing is worth.

NMike

in 98 when the beetle came out, people were paying $7000 more for it over sticker, then selling it for the same price but in the US . the canadian dollar was at .70 at the time

We have free market economics and knucklehead economics.  You can draw your own conclusions where to place overpaying for anything from Hannah Montana tickets to Sony Playstations to Dodge Challengers (of any vintage  :icon_smile_wink:).

We were on a list to get a 2008 Challenger, but when we started to see the huge mark up we are going to wait a couple of years like andy says. bought a 2008 dodge caliber. Half the number of cylinders and 2.5 times the gas mileage. :icon_smile_big: No friggin power though.

I've always fully expected the first year or two of Challys to have higher markups on them, it's just the nature of the beast...no matter how rediculous it is. If & when I get one, it will be a clean used one that someone is selling cheap because they can't afford it.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

even if i had the $ for a 2008 challenger (i dont) i would wait for the price to drop. I think for some guy's its all about getting the cars first money is not a issue for some people they just want things now.

I'am with Silver R/T.  I will just wait until one can buy one at a reasonable price.  Reasonable for a new one is a few percent over wholesale-------with no ADP tacked on.

Once they received the 12/3/07 orders, didn't they almost doubled the original 2008 production numbers on the car.

The 2008s are being made in April with a May delivery and then the 2009s will start to being made and delivered in July 2008. Production is not stopping, just at some point they'll be changing the year they call the car! So the $10K/$15K mark up is for the bragging rights on saying you have the 2008 since 2009 production is estimated to be around 35,000 cars.

Real good article on the car
http://www.allpar.com/cars/dodge/challenger.html

The always-reliable oh20 reported that the LC series Challenger would start production in April 2008 with the SRT8 and 6.1 liter engine. The 2009 Challenger, to be built starting in July 2008, will include a 3.5 liter SXT with the 3.5 liter engine and four-speed automatic, R/T with the second-generation 5.7 Hemi, and the SRT-8. The 2010, to start production in July 2009 - with convertibles starting in early 2009 - will be similar but with SXT and R/T convertibles, and possibly a new 6.4 liter High Output SRT8 option. Finally, the 2011 Challenger will include the 4.0 liter Phoenix engine instead of the 3.5 liter.

And by then it'll have neat things like Shaker hood, bill board stripes, big ass motor, and go really fast. :drive:  Can't think of a single car that first year styling was better than the following years. Good move.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

In my option the 72 was the cleanest looking year and they finally started to build them with some quality. The first 2 years were really horrible built cars.

But is it unethical if dealers begin telling people that the cars will only be sold to the highest bidders above msrp several months before it's even confirmed the cars will be built?

Personally I don't think it is, the greediness pisses me off but I don't think I can go as far as calling it unethical.

BrianShaughnessy

Wasn't planning on buying one anyway.     The 6 speeds manuals don't come out for awhile and it'd just be a weekend car that isn't practical with gas prices to commute 60+ miles a day like I do.

When I was down at the dealership last week , to get my car inspected. The parts manager told me that they were suppose to get 2 of the new Challengers. The owner is keeping the 1st one for herself. She is gonna put it away in a building with her collection. And the 2nd one is gonna be sold in a silent auction. I might be able to afford one in about 10 yrs. :brickwall:

I always thought the first year of a new model would have the most problems. I would wait a year or two until they get all the bugs worked out. As long as Chrysler is still around in two years. Maybe the ones paying 10K over sticker just want to get one before Chrysler goes belly up.

:scratchchin:  ETHICS and car salesmen for the most part have nothing in common.   Any of you out there that are in auto sales know exactly what I'm talking about.   I hope you are one of the few Andy that are most honest.  I've been going to dealer auctions for several years and dealing with dealers and it's sad to say that I've only met a very, very, very small handfull that I would consider 99% honest.  Most people think that a used car at a new dealer was a trade-in.  :rotz: The reason for that is that's what they tell you.  Some are, but allot of them come from auctions or other dealers. This doesn't mean that you are getting a bad deal or car but, the nice shiny used Challenger you buy may have been a rental.  :brickwall:  And everyone here knows how nice people are to performance rental cars.   :yesnod: Used cars are good money for new car dealers.  Just ask for a history report on the car before you buy and don't let the dealiar sell you a rental unless you get a smoking deal on it.  Far as this car having a huge markup, supply and demand comes to my mind and I think the dealers are in-titled to enjoying this cash cow. I still think it sucks as a consumer but If I had a limited supply of a hot item I'd get what I can for it and they are too and I don't see anything wrong with it.   Chuck...............
