Yikes! Someone posted similar pics not too long ago, but it was a '70 getting mushed.  :rotz:

Hey, it was back in the day when nobody cared, so I can't be mad at them.

JimShine

Yeah, the 70 was on a poster.

People who bash "Dukes of Hazzard" for tearing up all those Chargers in the early '80s are conveniently forgetting what those times were like.

At that time, even a Mopar-specific magazine could probably have done an article on that truck event and not bothered to make any mention of the '69 being squashed.   The used bodies were lying around everywhere.  Scrapping them just didn't evoke the frustration that it does now.

I'm gonna stick up my hand here and say that I may be the exception to that.  I very much didn't like the DOH back then and for that very reason.  I will agree that the times were like that for sure though because I also recall how much my friends used to laugh at me for being upset about the show wrecking all of those cars.  Do you remember an issue of TV Guide with a photo showing the remains being cut up so no one could profit of WB?  That almost made me puke.  Maybe it's from being in the rust belt but the fact that they were destroying the cars and then ensuring no other Charger could use the part just left me with a distaste for all things DOH that carries on to this day.
I may be the minority but I hated Charger wrecking just as much then as I do today.

Holy s&%t, that thing almost looks new! If I had been there I'd have chained myself to it like those freaky tree huggers do out in the woods.

If you look closely in the second picture there's a reflection off that guys watch that apparently bounces off a piece of chrome on the ground and reveals an extra leaf spring on one side.

Yep, thats what sucks the most. If it was a rolled or smashed beyond belief '69 than it would be fine but still sad. But the fact that it looks mint.... :flame: :'(

Ghoste,

Maybe it's just a rust-belt thing.  But in the southwest like LA they just didn't seem to react like that.

Seeing any decent 2dr rwd car get whacked causes a certain amount of annoyance.  If that car had been a 1987 Firebird in a truck show today, there would be people complaining if it really looked good.  But that doesn't mean that 1987 Firebirds are prized these days.  Even if people don't particularly like seeing something like that being destroyed, they're still mullet-mobiles that are seen as basically disposable in most cases.

Ghoste

It must be regional Mike cuz we just don't even see 1987 models of anything around here, let alone good condition mulletmobiles to crush.

1969chargerrtse

Well, at least it didn't have a flush rear window plug. :rotz:  That is sad, but they did make 100,00 or so, thank God.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Notice how people are sitting along the wall on the floor, waiting to get crushed :icon_smile_big:.  that doesnt happen anymore!.
