question about fender tags

what is the significance of the "end" i see at the top of some fender tags?

END of sales codes.

END indicates the end of option codes. Not all option codes are found on the fender tag, the full listing after END is found on the broad cast sheet. Mainly because they can't fit all the option codes on that tiny little plate so they only put the main ones there until they run out of room. At least thats the way I understand it.

And the reason it's at the top is because the codes actually begin at the bottom and work up.  I have no idea why though.

Some cars have enough options to warrant a second tag or have a special second tag.  Instead of END on the first tag
you'll see EN1 or CTD (don't remember all possibilities for all years).  I think END does come at the end even its on a 2nd
or 3rd tag.

Then theres the EN2 tags....The earliest I have in the registry with that code is 5/5/69

The startup date I have (just with the Daytonas I track) for EN2 is right around there also, just going from memory.  However, except for right around that date, it seems like they were all EN2's after the changeover took full effect.  It could be that the Daytonas were all run down the same line and would therefore follow the pattern, but are there any END Hamtramck-built Base Chargers or Charger R/T's recorded in the '69 Registry?

Gene , Yes there are base and R/T's with "end" from Hamtramck.
I have the tags in front of me.
Have prod dates of B22-A16-B01.

My '69 R/T Hemi built at Hamtramck  on 3/14/69 has END on the tag.

Brian, are there any END tags with SPD's after early May? 

I know there are many Daytonas with END, but all have SPD's before +/- 505 as Chris mentioned.

I'm trying to think but I'm going from memory here but I think that car 426730 had END on the fender tag. It was an RT/SE.

Oh and Gene I think that there is a Daytona with a build date of 529 that has an END on the fender tag. VIN ends in 581.

Here is a 5-20 spd with end.
On a daytona obviously, I don't have a reg charger or R/T with end and a later spd.Chris would have way more info than me.

Well with the RT/SE I only looked at the car one time, and it was in the dark, and the car was for sale at the time. However I do very specifically remmeber the VIN to the car, and I also very vividly remember that it had the ever ellusive M05 door edge mouldings on the car. Not sure if they were factory or not, but its the only car I recall seeing them actually mounted on. Factory bronze car that was painted black. I believe it was at the Mopar nationals 2 years ago as well. Saw it from a distance, and I am almost certain its the same car.

Update, and you can feel free to  me on this one, but I just found a photo of the fender tag and it says EN2. So I was wrong on that part.

I found a charger R/T with the same 5-20 spd with en2."Edit" scratch that,pic of tag looks like a 5,paperwork says 6-20.
There must be a bulletin out there mentioning the start of a another line.

I'll try and address a few things here;

EN1 - End of sales codes, assembly line 1

EN2 - End of sales codes, assembly line 2

Hamtramck had  two assembly lines long before 1969, but for some reason near the end of the 1969 model year they started noting it on the tags. I do not have a lot of 1969 information, but from what I do have the earliest EN1 I have for Hamtramck during the 1969 model year is on a Dodge Dart with a scheduled production date of June 6th.

If all the Chargers were built on line one, then the tags would end in EN1 after they made the coding change.

Depended on the options on the car....tag was pretty much the same as the Hamtramck tags...coded a bit differently though

I think you are thinking of the Lynch Road tags which are really strange (no 69 Chargers built there though)

Looks like Baracudas and Chargers were line 2. Darts were line 1.
