I had that opportunity in the 80s.I do recall it was something $200 or $300.Not a bad price for a hemi car.Wonder what ever happened to those numbers?

Probably "rebodied" and sold for a record price as an untouched original at B-J.  :icon_smile_wink:

What if you cut a 71 hemi cuda in half down the middle and a 71 /6 barracuda down the middle. What would it be? Would it be whatever drivers side you used because the tag is on that side? What would become of the car made from the halves that you didn't keep?

I am NOT advocating making a more valuable car out of a /6 or 318 car and selling it as such.

Which is why legit restoration shops will photo document every step of the process. Showing exactly what metal was replaced, and why. They won't just show a before photo and a completed photo and make you guess as to what they did to get to that end result.

My '73 is originally a 318 car which now has a 400 in it from another 73.  I actually have had plenty of opportunities to change my cars numbers to big block but whats the point?  I had every bit of original paperwork to the car my motor came out of, right down to the original 1 owner title.  The car was a 40k mile original, hit in the front and a total loss, so I parted it out.  I could have started swapping numbers but that would be retarded.  I like my car the way it is, customized.  I also have no intentions of ever selling it so what would be the point, other than to profit or brag (lie)?  The day i got my car the fender tag came off (habit) to keep it from being stolen...  you never know anymore.  And I always keep my VIN tag covered with something anyway, because 99% of the people looking at that are up to no good anyway.  I'd give the info to a registry if we had one, but the random guy who starts nosing around my car doesnt need to see it.   :Twocents:

It doesn't matter how solid the other car is, once you move the tags or numbers from one to the other it becomes FRAUD.

So if I buy an envelope with a title, a vin, a broadcast sheet, and a fender tag and it's all for a rare Hemi car.  Let's also just say it comes with a box of excellent rust free metal from the same car that matches what I have in the envelope, and let's just assume that the rust free parts are a rad cradle and a trunk lip.  So now I own a car that's virtually the same as the Hemi car except that it's in incredible condition.  If Iput all of the Hemi identification on the rust free car, it isn't wrong, I'm just saving a Hemi car from extinction, right?  It shouldn't matter what it left the factory with just so long as I haev the identifying proof that shows it to be a real Hemi car.  You'd happily pay top dollar for that right?

If and old dude gets a heart, lung or kidney transplant, he does not assume the identify of the smart, rich, young, perpertual hard-on donor.

He is still an old dude, with some updated parts.

I think the point is that there are ALOT of restored cars that have new floors, trunk floors, inner and outer quarters, tailpanels and even roofs, etc. etc, replaced.  Not much remains orig.  That really isn't much different from replacing the whole shell with a better one.

Atleast the tags would still belong to the car. Look at my car, I'm replacing all the rust, its alot of rust yes, but I'd rather take the time and replace the rust than to just switch numbers. IMO, switching numbers is the easy way out. :Twocents:

I understand.  I am kind of playing devil's advocate, but my point is: Replacing panels with repop. metal, NOS metal, or used metal, it is still not the orig. car.  Especially in instances where everything (roof, floors, trunk, tailpanels, 1/4's etc.) is needed.  I am certainly not supporting making a car a more valuable one by VIN swapping.

What if you were able to swap his brains?  Who would he be then?

sick dawg

OMG! o-kay! o-kay!!! I did it, I did it! I put a new floor pan in it. I put a new trunk pan in it. New paint and interior too. I thought it would be cool to have a hemi car, so I bought a big hemi drivetrain for it. I even got a new dana 60 for it, but I swear the whole drivetrain was gone when I bought it. All it had was a little chevy rear so it could be rolled on. I'm sorry, I'm  sorry, the numbers don't match. It's a basket case, I know! I'm sorry, I just wanted a nice charger I can drive and enjoy. I'm sorry I didn't mean it.
Now I feel better!

P.S. My car still looks better and will blow the doors off most #'s matching cars I see! :eek2:

I stripped a 69 R/T to Build my 69 Plain Jane Charger.  :yesnod: It was about being cost effective, i had a very soild 69 and a rusty R/T. So with the transplanted powertrain my car dos'ent know the difference.  :shruggy:
