I was just over at Ertl's site and it looks like they re-released a General Lee 1:18 diecast. This one looks sweet! The 01 looks sorta small though or is it just me? :shruggy:. I have the older version of this diecast and I can tell you, this new one looks more detailed. I'll take pics of my older one in a while to compare. But for now, heres the new one

That isn't the final version, but the sample made months ago. There will be some further refinements made. They have revamped the whole 1968-70 line. Lots of small details will be there nobody thought would make it.

In regards to the Lee, it will not feature a Hemi, the antenna is based off a real teardrop, the pushbar is supposed to be tweaked (but am unsure what will happen there), and the graphics are supposed to be fixed. I sent them all sorts of info, much made it in early and some may not get used.

I'm probably in the minority for feeling strongly about this, but the rollcage in the ERTL stuff has always been one of my biggest peeves.  I wish they'd either make a 2-point bar or make some kind of full cage, but the longstanding cages don't look anything like any real ones.

If they did a better GL cage it could also be used in the "Fast & Furious" Chargers.

It looks better than the ones I had as a kid.   :2thumbs:

I provided rollcage details. They didn't seem too responsive. They were knocking down a list of common complaints, the wheels, antenna, and pushbar. I added rollbar, graphics, engine size, and paint color corrections. I won on the engine size and am unsure where the rest will go for sure.

I need a new push bar for my older version of that diecast. When I was younger, I took it on the ferry with me (before I considered them collectables) and I left it for a few mins. When I was gone, some stupid little kid broke the push bar off of it and left the car sitting there. I never found that push bar. Anybody know where I can get a new one?

AND, when I was little, I had atleast 5 of those 1:24 scale General Lee diecasts. I wrecked every single one. We had this big bump made outta concrete in the playground of my school. I launched the cars off that and destroyed them. I had 6 I think, all I have left is a piece of an orange cowl, an orange hood and a beat up shell of one of them that I painted black. :yesnod:

They are nicer, but still flawed. The graphics are the same, the body is nicer, but still flawed. They really messed up the window cuts making the flat area of the drip edge above the doors curved. But, there are many nice little things they ironed out. They made a teardrop antenna for the GL's. It is made off of my personal antenna. I had 1968 headlight surrounds that they replicated and are using on the new 1968's. But as far as the GL goes, they obviously were having some financial problems and it affected the final product. Rather than address all of the issues, they just added an antenna and recycled the old graphics, pushbar and rollbar on the new tool body.

The regular GL I received looks like it is used as it has so many factory flaws in the paint. The Black chase version is much nicer.

I have a regular black 1969 as well and it looks nice. My suggestion, skip the GL and buy the standard version.
