I found a 69' or 68' charger for sale in Ca. the reason I say this is the title says 1969 and the tail lights are 69' but the front grill and fenders are 68'. The person selling it said he had heard that in the last months of 68' production was putting 69' tail lights in the cars and registering them and titling the as 1969's. the # on the title does match the # on the dash.
want to buy for $11,500 but don't know what year I'm getting.

The seller is giving you a line of bullshit, the car has probably been wrecked in the front and had the fenders/grill replaced with a set off of a 68...wonder what else he is lying about  ::)

paintedrhino

he also said the vin# pulls the car up as a 4 speed v6. was there such a car and did it have a tic toc tac.

No four speed six cylinder cars, a few were built with a manual 3-speed, no V-6 back then either but there was a 225 inch SLANT six.... Sounds to me like the seller is either stupid, missinformed, or dishonest, proceed with caution, maybe post some pics of the car here, and post the VIN and the fender tag info...someone here will be able to figure this car out... :yesnod:

paintedrhino

the car is currently on ebay it's the metallic green one I think the auction is up to $9500.00 and the reserve not met. If you want to look at it. He's located close to me so I went and looked at it today. thanks

:iagree:

My BS meter is off the charts on this one.  I'd run far away from that seller and find something legit.

And one more person will overpay on e-screw.  It isn't too late for you though rhino, run screaming from this car and do not look back.

OldGuy

The VIN# provides the following information:
1st digit: Car make
2nd digit: Series number
3rd and 4th digit: Body style
5th digit: Engine (displacement; horsepower; # of cylinders; carburetion)
6th digit: Model year
7th digit: Assembly plant
8th through 13th digit: Sequential production numbering

The VIN# will not tell you the type of transmission or other options (tic toc tac).   Options are coded on the fender tag and/or build sheet.

Proceed with caution!! :eyes:

Interior shot shows it was an air conditioned car (cooler vents on dash), whacko homemade dash, don't know where he got the bucket seats (they are not 68 or 69 pattern), door handle parts are missing, shifter kit sits a little high compared to the placement of the buddy seat, body pictures are somewhat deceptive - shows the 68 front fender side markers but excludes full photo of the rear quarters to see what kind of side markers it has - etc, etc, etc ???

Charger_Fan

This looks like a '69 Charger that someone slapped a '68 front end on...aaaand forgot to replate the front bumper in the process. :icon_smile_big:
As usual with this type of ad, the pics show just enough to draw in the unsuspecting shopper, but not enough to tell the whole story...HLPAG type of scenario.

The body looks good from here, but as soon as you show it to any other fellow Mopar lovers, they're gonna ask about the '68 front end...from 100 feet away.

For that price, I'd walk & look for another.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

But you can see the back side of the 69 rear markers in the trunk shot. :D

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

This is the car I posted about Monday, 69 Charger. I went and looked, talked the guy yesterday. Originally he told me it was 6 cyl 3 speed on tree, yesterday he said he spoke to an expert in Texas and it was an original 383 4 speed car. He then said the reason for the 68 grill was (according to the Texas expert) the first 104 1969's at one plant used up old 68 grills (and fenders I think he said also). He told me the car was sold to a guy fromk Riverside. Car is solid and runs good, interior definitely cobbed together. I never did look at the vin # or fender tag, I could call and ask him tell me.

Charger Aficionado

I just talked to him...  He is going to take it to my bud (and Big Lebowski's) Chris Kane in Lemon Grove (S.D.) Ca.  All Chris does is Chargers, so he'll figure it out.  Guy said there were NO numbers on Core support.

I say it's a '69 that got dinged with no title, so they used the '68 parts and dash to register it.

??? Even if that were a true story(which I highly doubt) that would mean the Vin# better be from the 1st day of production 1969. I am going with the earlier comments that it is a '69 car that someone put a '68 clip on...many years have passed and a lot of these cars get all kinds of mods over time.

I for one, do not believe the using up 68 parts story.  As popular as these cars are and as valuable as they have become and as strong as the hobby has grown, this little gem pops up this late in the game?  No way.  This is a scam in the making and if they are willing to lie about this, what else are they hiding?

calchargerRT

Yeah I am sure someone on this board woul dhave heard of these very rare 104 early 69 chargers.

more genaric door panels... looks to me like a badly done project that someone's given up on..

What a mongrel.... and at 9500, the reserve STILL hasn't been met??!! The guy in the other thread that got the '68 in bad primer for 3500 made out with a much better deal.

Hard to believe someone has actually bid it that high.   :image_294343: :mrt:  (been waiting to use that one lol)

1) bidding was ended early because of misinformation or something like that

2) I like the seats in that interior, they look comfy
