Things you don't want to hear from your mechanic!

When I had my tranny rebuilt this summer at a local shop they did the pulling out and re-install of it.  I had no way of getting just the tranny to them.  These guys have been in business for over 30 years and are good Mopar guys.  I realized that they would be driving the car after the re-build to adjust shift points and kick-down, etc..  What I didn't need to hear when picking the car was------WOW!! that thing HAULS ASS!!----YOU sure get tons of looks driving that car!!!!!------My wife loves the color!!! (she dosen't work there).  I had neglected to write down the mileage when I dropped it off, but I'm sure that the car was driven longer and harder than necessary to dial in the tranny.  The guy seemed clueless that these remarks might not have been appropriate.  Anyway, it still pisses me off.  I'm sure some of you guys have had simular experiences.  Bob

the only shop that works on my car,when i cant get to something,is the one at the dealership i work at.that way i can keep an eye on the guys,so no one gets crazy on me! look on the bright side,they probably treated it as good as you do,or they wouldnt have said anything!

I paid a shop $1200 to rebuild my tranny, install trunk floor pans and install a new gas tank assembly. When I went to pick it up, the guy told me "I would be willing to pay upwards of $2000 for that car". Yes, more than half of that just went into the work you did to the thing. Must have thought I was stupid.

bob, lets hope his wife seen the car while it was at the shop and she stoped by. and as far as getting alot of looks, well that can happen in a fairly short drive with a car like yours, espcially with the machanics wife sitting in the passenger seat with a tube top on and all the smoke rolling out of the rear wheel wells with the tranny shop banners stuck to the doors during the bloomsday parade!

 As stated, could meaning nothing. But I trust few and they are far in between. When I get my oil change, I drive her on the the pit. I am finaly do the old car plates (can't spell the right word). Main reason I don't want some one with no clue to what I have drive it for the smog test. Gave me the creeps watching them beat on the 91 Daytona, much less the 68 Runner or the 69 Charger.

there was this kid few months ago that rolled to backyard with his buddy in 80's beater honda accord and comes in and asks to see owner of the charger...so I come out and hes like ya i need to talk to owner. So I say it is me..hes like where;s your father, thats his charger right? IM like NO ive said its MINE. Then stupid kid is like well ill give you 2K for it..
I was getting pissed more and more from now as I was pulled from sleep on cold morning to talk to some low baller punk kid. People just have no idea...

I feel your pain. I had a guy who lives near me pull up last yearin a 90's Tempo and offer me $500 for my car. I laughed and told him I spent more to get it shipped home. He left, but my bro works with him. He told my brother I was silly to think it was worth more than $1K.

Hell, there are probably parts on the car you could sell for $1K alone.  I had one guy I worked with come up to me and tell me my doors were sprung and that car wasn't worth $500 bucks.  I told him I was born on a day, but it wasn't yesterday.  I also told him 3 other guys at work offer me $6k or more (this was the mid-late 80's) for it.

One thing the guys at work back then kept saying was how they had cars like that (I would always cring when they compared it to a camaro or a nova  ) and wish they never sold it.  I have had the same one for almost 22 years now, I don't want to be one of those guys who let their car get away from them.  Sometimes I think that car picked me and not the other way around.
