the latest issue of Hot Rod has their top 100 "most influential hot rods of all time" - and number one is actually number 01 - the General Lee!

Brock Samson

well of course i knew that,.. '69 baby!  :slap:

love the way the tall guards look on your '68..   :icon_smile_wink:

from the article:

1  - THE GENERAL LEE

Influence. That's what this list is all about. Love it or hate it, but the General Lee '69 Charger from the dreadful (but highly entertaining) Dukes of Hazzard TV show has no doubt influenced more people to get into cars, or at least pay attention to them, than any other car.

Nicer than Doane Spencer's 32? Hardly.  But your grandmother and probably even the illegal immigrant who mows your lawn recognize this car, and that, friends, is influential. Name another car that you can find cloned in nearly any Auto Trader in the country during any week of the year.

Yea, Brock is definitely from some place where people are rendered indecipherable by the bulk of the populous. I'm thinking he might have been dropped off here by aliens actually.

Ghoste

It isn't tail guards, it's tall guards.  In 69 there were long and short bumper guards depending on whether you car was early or late production.
Or are you just trying to provoke him??

Charger-Bodie

I believe Brock is refering to the tall  front bumper gaurds on 68charger70cuda's Charger :yesnod:
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

Well the tall bumper guards wouldn' be correct for a 68 though, and I believe they only apply to the later 69's. I don't recall any early 69's with the tall ones.

the subject of this thread was an article in hot rod magazine - not my !@#$%^&*( "incorrect" bumper guards!!! puleeeze!!!

You mean its the earth? Over.
Positive. It is known to have some form of intelligent

I think we should take a look.

Strange beautiful grass of green,
With your majestic silver seas
Your mysterious mountains I wish to see closer
May I land my kinky machine

Although your world wonders me,
With your majestic and superior cackling hen
Your people I do not understand,
So to you I shall put an end
And you'll
Never hear
Surf music again

Secret
Oh, secret
Oh
Shhhh...

CRAP...I need to get my eyes checked. :scope: I think it was from seeing that sparkle Charger on the ugly paint job page. I thought it said T A I L not T A L L.

Nice to see the GL getting some credit for influence.  You don't have to like it, but the car's effects are undeniable.

The number of Mopars (not to mention all-makes musclecars) that character has helped to get restored is WAY, WAY beyond the number of Chargers that they ever wrecked filming that TV series.

I have to admit that I'm a little surprised.  If I were to bet, I would have put my money on them choosing the 32 Ford or the 69 Camaro.  I would never have figured to see a Dodge until around number 5 on their list.
Gotta give 'em a big thumbs up on it though!  :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

i went to the hot rod mag web site but i think they hold back their features a month to promote sales of the current magazine. anyhow, please list the choices in order. Where's the mustang rate?..

oh, and by the way... the original recording...   http://youtube.com/watch?v=XrtgywgFzUI

I browsed it this afternoon.    American Graffiti coupe was #2.     The old Ramchargers High & Mighty and  Sox & Martin Plymouths made the list  :2thumbs: but not the Silver Bullet  :icon_smile_blackeye:

Some good selections... some bad.      While the Bandit Trans Am is in there I didn't see KITT.   I didn't see the Vanishing Point Challenger or a DMCL Charger either.   ::)    But the original Batmobile made it  :coolgleamA:

There's a lot of old feature cars from Hot Rod or whatever....   stuff I don't really care about.   I could have figured in advance that they didn't put Rick's Green Brick on the list

Black Betty:  1969 Charger R/T - X9 440 six pack, TKO600 5 speed, 3.73 Dana 60.
Sinnamon:  1969 Charger R/T - T5 440, 727, 3.23 8 3/4 high school sweetheart.

Brock Samson

sometimes i think it depends alot on what the target demographis is,.. like if they're catering to the kids who are currently in the scene or keeping true to their roots,..
i would expect the '55 american graffiti/two lane chevy and the "little duce coupe that was on the album cover...
cause when ya' say "Hot Rods" i sure don't think Muscle Cars.. any car i guess that's been significantly modified is to me a hot rod...
im goin out in a min. i'll make it a point to scope out the list. :scope:

The list excluded stock production cars.  It was a list of the most "influential" customized cars that have been built since 1947 (HR's debut year).

I was actually kinda impressed with the list overall.

They included the 'Cheap Thrills" '68 Dart from the 1990s.
The #88 Daytona testing mule was in there too.

Voting the GL as #1 was a surprising admission of the truth that I didn't expect.  The GL probably won't be #1 in another 20 years, and it probably wasn't even that heavy-hitting to the grownups in the car community during the TV show's original heyday.  But it's definitely earned the #1 spot right now.
