Any one know what upside V would mean on the block pad on 1971 440? Top line is G440   and then the upside down V. Thanks

Thanks I have never seen that, actually I was wrong I was going by memory, it is not upside down it is just a V. So the top line is:

g440                v

bottom line is:

11    9             2

I don't see a V anywhere on the link you gave me. Also unsure on the 2 on bottomline, if engine is 1971 surely not built in 1972?

going back I see the 2 is build sequence, so Nov 9th build date, 2nd one of day.

Still can not figure what the V would be, according to link you gave top line is only year and engine size. Could the V mean six pack engine?

The V does not mean 6pk on the block,  that is on the vin tag and fender tag.
I have no idea what the block letter ''V'' means.

Could that be 1/2 of the W (water tested)? That would be my guess...

Or maybe it's just a simple mistake.  Someone grabbed the wrong punch?

I, too, would guess the "V" is a misstamp. The last 2 means it was built on the 2nd shift (day shift).
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks all the V is very clear so I don't think 1/2 of W, must be a mistake with wrong punch, looked like a W out of the corner of someone's eye.
