I have a 383 that came from a 1965 plymouth fury parts car. The numbers on the side of the block are 2468130-10, just below that are the letters LL and then the numbers 2967. Can anyone decode these numbers for me?

2468130 is the casting number for a 383.  Not sure what the 10 suffix is or the LL.  I thought 2967 should be a date code but it works out to Sept 11, 1970.  Could the engine have been replaced?  (I'm probably just figuring it incorrectly)

The dash number following the basic casting number is the Core Casting Index Number, it is the number of core plugs that were replaced in the casting core used to make the sand mold for the block.

The casting date on the side of the block isn't encoded, 2967 is read directly as February 9, 1967. Look for the stamped data on the flat pad next to the distributor, it will positively ID the year model, etc.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Yes this engine came out of an old parts car, the former owners don't have any history on it, so the engine could have been swapped out. Thanks for the help on the number Ghoste and John. When I get my pressure washer back I'll find the engine number on it :scope:
