I would like to thank KU for giving Oklahoma State its biggest win of the year last saturday.

It was the 2nd best basketball game I've ever been to.  :icon_smile_big:

Yes it was. I always love games like that. Even though it is a little nerve racking as a fan.

My trainer frowned at me today when I was telling him the local team was gonna get whupped.  :slap:

Congrats to Portland State though.  I don't remember the last time they were invited to the tournament.

TheGhost

I'm just rooting for the Big 12 teams.  Lord knows the Huskers can't get it done in basketball.

So was I. They just didn't seem to have anything going on. I think they missed every 3 point try  :eek2:

Kansas has a pretty easy path to the Final Four with Georgetown out of the picture.

K-State will suck again next year since Michael Beasley will probably go pro.

Now if OSU gets rid of Sean Sutton and hires Bill Self we will be all set for next year.  :D

i am glad KSU is out of the picture.  i absolutely despise them, especially after beasley's "beat kansas in Africa" cockya$$ remark.  GO JAYHAWKS!

I second that.  The way KU was beating teams until Davidson I thought they might just take it all.  Unfortunately I think Royz boyz are gonna be too much.  Danny Manning's back...as a coach, so maybe a little Championship magic will rub off.

What's this I've been hearing that Self is heading to Oklahoma?

RD

i think davidson was extremely underrated... plus they had the cinderella hype, as well as... as much as i hate to say it... i am sure KU thought it was not going to be a hard fought fight and were probably looking forward to UNC...

I think KU has a great chance against UNC... just double up hansbrough and get him into foul trouble early, and you will see the game go a totally different route....  hansbrough was allowed one too many fouls that were not called in the game against louisville.. and to be honest, it was pissing me off.  he is a damn fine basketball player, but some of the hacks he was getting away with makes you wonder if the ref's were not a bit lenient to him due to his NCAA aura...

oh well, its going to be a good one, and I like UNC a lot.. good rounded basketball team.  the KU/UNC connection is very similar to two kingdoms in the medieval era constantly marrying princesses and princes off to one another... the history is very unique..

Dean Smith, played at KU and was apart of the 54 Championship game (i believe)
Roy Williams, Asst under Smith, moves to KU, then back to UNC (his alma mater)
Jerod Haase (asst under williams) point guard for KU in 91? 93?  I am sure there are more connections.

I never heard about Self leaving. Someone mentioned they WISH they had him on the last page but I guess it doesn't hurt to wish.

I noticed the refs in this game seemed to favor Davidson. I guess they wanted to keep the cinderella thing alive. Maybe the better refs will play the last games  ::)

There is no wishing to it. If not next year it will be the year after. Bill Self's best friend and college roommate is a personal friend of mine and he has told me that Bill has been meeting with Mike Holder (OSU Athletic Director) a couple of times over the past few months. Bill Self has had it written into his contract at every university that if the OSU coaching position became vacant he could leave without paying a penalty. Boone Pickens has put together a $40 million dollar / 10 year contract plus a 6 million dollar signing bonus. That would make him the highest paid college basketball coach in history. Every coach dreams of coaching at his alma mater. Bill Self even said prior to this season that the OSU coaching spot was his dream job. When OSU played Kansas in Stillwater we booed the entire Kansas team, but when Bill Self was announced all 13,000+ fans gave him a standing ovation. It's only a matter of time because Boone Pickens HATES Sean Sutton and what Boone says goes around here. I guess that is one of the perks of donating over $300 million dollars. Sean Sutton has ran our championship program into the ground and has caused the fan base to nearly dissappear.

if Self leaves, we need Mark Turgeon to coach KU :D hehehe

The wheels are in motion. Sean Sutton was fired this morning.  :D

Self on OSU: "I'm not a candidate"

J-W Staff Reports
Posted Tuesday, April 1, 2008

At his Tuesday press conference leading up to Saturday's national semifinals - during which Bill Self heard a more firm confirmation of Oklahoma State's Sean Sutton being out as the Cowboys' head coach - the Kansas University coach again diffused rumors that he'd be a candidate for the opening.

"If it has been done, I feel bad for Sean, because I feel his team got better over the course of the year. I do care deeply about my alma mater. Spent 11 years of my life at OSU," Self said. "But nobody from there has contacted me, and if they did, I would strongly reccommend they move in another direction."

After the press conference, while exiting Hadl Auditorium, he was even more firm, saying "I'm not a candidate."
Added KU athletics director Lew Perkins Tuesday afternoon: "Nobody has called me from Oklahoma State, which I would assume they would have done that. We're going to do everything we possibly can to have Bill be our basketball coach here for a long, long time. I see no reason why that won't happen."

For more on this story, including full coverage of Tuesday's media session with Self and the KU players in Allen Fieldhouse, log back onto KUSports.com and pick up Wednesday's Journal-World.

If their sights are on Self, you would have thought they could have waited until the tournament was over.  ::)

justin1987

The problem with that story is Bill said the same thing when he was at Tulsa. Three weeks later he was on his way Illinois. Even if he was 100% leaving he would deny it since he is in the final four. He would be crazy to say he was leaving right now. We'll see if he changes his tune in about a month.

Go Kansas! (God, that felt weird to say )
