Regardless of how much horsepower his car has it's still an Eagle Talon

I'd rather cruise around and look cool in my Charger all day while people like that are buying their $2,000 econoboxes and dumping thousands of dollars into them only to be arrested for street racing.

I agree!

Hey now don't knock on that -an Eagle Talon was a Mopar afterall, just like the D50 pickup.  And the Challenger/Sapporo. And the Conquest.  And the Stealth.  Wait, did I say Mopar?  I meant Moparbishi.

The new tech trounces the old. It is what it is.

From what I understand, that "kid" is now around 63yo, got married, divorced, married again, divorced again and is now engaged for a 3rd time.  He finished his Talon ages ago, and all he heard for the first few years was regardless of the HP, the car was a colossal POS.  After several years of this repeated abuse, he finally got fed up and tried to sell the car, but of course he couldn't find anyone interested enough in buying it.  He became depressed due to this situation and the final straw for wife #2 came when she got him a vanity plate for the car for Christmas one year with the simple letters - POS

After his 2nd divorce, he got back to working on that car - only this time he disassembled it - taking out the engine and putting the original one back in.  He was able to sell the stock Talon to a friend for $13.95, so just above the Blue Book value, and he eventually sold the engine as well generating enough cash to buy himself a project 69 Charger.  Upon finishing that car, even though it wasn't necessarily as fast as the POS (as it was so 'proudly' tagged) he received thumbs up everywhere he went.  People loved his car.  All of this positive attention did wonders for his psyche.  He was no longer depressed, and by golly he eventually came to realize that the character of a car lies in much more than the HP of its engine.

Yes our newfound Charger lover is quite a changed man since this thread began, and I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say we're all so very proud of the man's transformation over the past few decades.

(sorry this is borderline insane, maybe I should stop drinking tonight...)

nice story and you are correct....even if our cars heavy as tanks and low power to weight ratio our cars are still cooler than the new stuff out there.

drive up next to a talon at a light and a chargers pulls up the charger will get more attention even if that talon has 1 gazzillion Horsepower.

Well, speaking of resurrections, haha its been a few yrs since ive been on here and stumbled across this old post of mine, well heres the scoop on that talon. Well it totally smeared the hell outta both my chargers including the Indy headed 512 I have built.  Haha ( I'm just kidding)  actually that talon never even got built, the kid ended up junking the car and turned into a video game playing slob. He was all talk, he just wanted to downgrade me.

I must be one of the lucky ones. I can't recall ever having any import punk talk trash to me. Maybe the wheels I run tell them I'm not stuck in the 70s. As UNfair as it may seem, a classic car on skinny stock tires does look like "Old tech". In our society, so many people treat anything "old" as being obsolete. Looking at the Imports, how many of them from the 70s are competitive with current models?
A well tuned stock 68-70 Hemi Charger can still turn comparative ETs to a new Charger. Not so with any import.

I wish I'd kept a 1972 Toyota Carolla I had. RWD, "half Hemi", and they look cool when done up right.

I had a 1971 powder blue Corolla, 4-spd and it was a really fun car to drive around. Wish I still had it.

Bobs69

I had a black 1986 Corolla GTS rear wheel drive 5 speed pop up headlights it was real sporty real fun to drive.

Kinda funny yesterday I washed and dried the charger off and me and my little dog coco went for a trip around the block since it was in the 70's here yesterday and we turned off the main road onto a side road to the left and a girl and guy pulled up to the corner riding a four wheeler and the girl was driving and the guy was on the back and when I turned into the road she said "now that's a bad ass car" and the guy on the back just kinda looked but didn't say anything. I recognized him from being around here all my life I guess and he is one of the guys that drives them hot rod honda's around here LOL. I just wonder what he said to her after I got out of sight because I bet that pissed him off when she said that.  :yesnod:

Great old thread... the last time my Charger was at New England Dragway, there used to be a guy with a talon or eclipse, cant remember, but all I remember was being glad I never ran against him, despite the fact that it was street night, not bracket, or whatever, but I didn't want my car on film getting spanked. :hah: My Charger was in the high 12's at the time, and he was clicking off 11's, launching off of the limiter, sounded terrible but it flew for sure.
