every since i sold my 69 440hp i have been wanting another 440 engine so i bought a 73 new yorker with a 440 4bbl in it and i  am thinking about building it and before i pull it out i
want to make sure it's worth building.I know it does have the cast crank and i don't know the number on the heads.
My goal would be to have a 440 with around 450-475hp.  I have read were people say a cast crank will hold up to 500 hp.
the motor has never been rebuilt still runs ,1 old lady car.
i was thinking
440 30 over
speed pro 10 to 1 pistons
906 or 915 heads
maybe a 268 voodoo cam
action plus intake
750 demon
headers

what do you think?

You might think about keeping the compression ratio down to no more than 9.5:1 with todays pump gas.  915's would be nice but they are rare.  452's would be better than the 906's (they have hardened seats).

Rolling_Thunder

I'de say 9.5:1 compression with 906 heads treated to some cleaning up of the bowls and gasket matching to an edelbrock performer RPM intake. Camshaft ? I would have to say Engle on this one...    K56 seems to the be nice street grind they have...    want a little more duration go to their K58...    1 7/8" headers and a 750 would wrap up a nice combo right around the power your looking for.

i might do edelbrock rpm heads but what about the crank and rods on a 73 440 ?  are they good enough ?anyone know what heads came on the 73's?

Ghoste

Of course, if you go with the aluminum heads, you may want to consider a little more compression.

Challenger340

73 440 core is fine.

Probably "ly" rods, possibly has the "six-pack" rods in it.

Check the balancer, or pull it apart, either way it's fine for what you're doing. Resize Rods with ARP rod bolts in either set.

346 heads on 73's ?

9.5:1 Compression MAX for 915 iron heads, little less better, say 9.3 for "open chamber" 906,346,452.

suggest 10.2:1 Compression with Aluminium heads/ that "witchy" Voodoo Cam.

I have NOT had good success with Demon carbs.

Bob out.

In 73 casting #3462346 and 3751213 both where 88cc.In 74 3769902 also 88cc But the stock head to have with todays gas would be a 76-78 head #4006452 also an 88cc head
