Hey. Some times my headlights do some faint flickering. Actuallymos the time they seem to.What could be the cause. Loose connection? Could a lose batter connection cause this?

hey bud- check all connections- battery, alt, grounds to frame and engine. next check the bulkhead connections- the main power wires, make sure the VR has a GOOD ground fron the case to the body- no paint behind it!!!  sometimes that faint flickering is normal- the VR is pulsing the field windings on/off!!

Thread_Marshal, souds like a dimmer switch to me. Lets see, think I have replaced 5 of them in the last 400,000 miles. ;D

if they flicker it may be the ground to your core support.  Mine did that and I thought it was the dimmer switch also, well... it wasnt, just a dirty ground connection.

The stuff posted above could be your problem.

Does it only happen when the car is running?  Or all the time? Does it seem to have a "pulse"?

Start with the easy stuff. Get the headlights flickering and then wander around and jiggle stuff untill you find the problem.

My guess is the headlight switch as well. They are pretty cheesy at best.

If you think its the headlight switch, pull the harness of the back of the switch. This can be done without taking out the dash if memory serves.

Find the "hot" and "ground" (The ground might not exist at the switch I forget) wires using a meter. Then stick a short jumper wire in the "hot" hole then make contact one at a time with the other wires untill your headlights come on.  Pay careful attention not touch the ground wire you found before. They still flicker?  If not its the switch (or a lose connection at the switch).  If they still flicker keep digging.

Better yet install a set of relays for the headlights and forget about it.

headlight relay setup was done to it last year-so main power is gone from the harness.

I think CudaKen, may be right about the dimmer switch being the cause, because it can cause all kinds of problems in the light circuit in the car, I've changed one before for the dash lights acting up, and it a easy $5.00 fix, you should try that first, Autozone can get them.

Tighetend battery cables, relay grounds. Only one I didnt was the one from the starter to the relay as I jump it from their because the batter is in the trunk.

I think it might be the voltage regulator cause even at speed I can see the amp gauge flicker a bit when the lights do. Make sense?

could be- but that faint flicker could be normal- maybe get the alt checked out- it might have a bad diode????

I'm pretty sure it aint normal. Never used to do it before. I'll get the alt checked and replace the switch if I can find one..

Autozone can get the dimmer switch if that's switch your refering to.

If it only happens at speed and has a "pulse" i guess... (flickers with the amp gauge) would that really be the dimmer switch. Though I should replace it anyways cause dash only works when fully cranked now...
