You guys are going to hate me for this.... but it was very impressive. Younger co-worker took me out in his WRX STi. 6-speed. It accerated great! it was smooth and little noticeable turbo lag. Car had some handling mods. Overall the handling was stiff, but very crisp

It's raining out and he got on it pretty hard up to 60 mph. Didn't lose traction even a little. My charger would have been sliding all over. Big disk brakes and it stops on a dime. 18" 35 aspect ratio sticky tires.

Overall...very inpressive.

I heard nothing, but good things on th WRX.  It is the most popular car with the tuner crowd.  I wouldn't mind owning one

why would I hate you? why would anyone hate you, unless they're pretty ignorant self-centered people. STi is one of the best cars out there for the money and runs 13's stock and with a little bit of work will run in 12's, gets great gas mileage, AWD and looks pretty good. Also has 4 doors so you can take your family to chuch on sundays and go beat your neighbor at the track on fridays. Would be my choice for sedan if I was buying one, not even worth mentioning over new "charger"

Hey Mark, I told you so!!!  My 2002 WRX wouldn't touch a newer STI but it is pretty damn quick.  Turbo cars are all pretty quick.  Remind me to take you for a ride in my Grand National some time.

This guy is waiting to go for a ride in my hemi challenger. He wants to compare the torque curves    :yesnod:

I've read a lot of good things about the WRX too, but damn that's an ugly little car.

Subies are great cars for a lot of reasons.  Handling is amazing in such small/light cars with such big grippy tires.  The Subie's suspension geometry probably isn't much better than an old Mopar, but the raw physics of the size/weight/dimensions of the cars are very different.

But the mileage issue is overblown.  Make a lotta horsepower and the gas mileage is gonna go down.  Fewer cylinders won't negate that problem.  I once read a Car/Driver test where a turbo'd 4-cyl Subaru actually got 1mpg WORSE  overall than a modern 4.6L Mustang GT.

I love Subies for their WRC rally endeavors.  That team came from being an underdog to really winning big in the 1990s with McRae's antics behind the wheel.

I agree with you - mine's coming up on its 5th birthday now, and it's been a good 5 years :D  Not an STi (bought it the year before the STi came to the states), but still one fun, practical, great car.

bull

So you're saying there actually have been some technological improvements in internal combustion propulsion during the past 40 years? :nana: Too bad the "advances" in the looks dept. have gone backward. :brickwall:

My mother got a 2000 Subaru wagon with the turbo/4cyl motor in 2001, and it's been a great car ever since.

You have to wonder about the kinds of abuse that the stick-shifted turbo versions of those drivetrains may be getting.  Heck, the 426 Hemis & 440/6bbls were probably TERRIBLY unreliable motors if you went by the warranty claims & used replacement sales statistics alone.

hmm you're comparing IRS to solid axle of an mopar?? It's not comparable at all imo. I wouldn't mind paying same gas price to fill up Sti than a 4.6 mustang. Features of Sti would still outweigh it.

I will agree nothing wrong with the WRX or the Evo for that metter both of which friends of mine own, they are fast and good rides. We may make fun of the tuners, but some of their cars are impressive like it or not.

True they run good, BUT you will always get more attention and smiles driving an old mopar.  :coolgleamA: :2thumbs:

Also, take off their turbo haha then see what they have  :nana:
Or on the other hand, you could always leave the turbo and just add one to an old mopar, then you can play game's

If you want the young chics go subaru

mally69

Well im 22 and i will disagree with that one. 2 of my friends  are twin's  and they have wrx's and I still get more attention in my 69 Charger than they do.  And that include's the girls..  but of course I live in a redneck type of town so the girls around here are used to dirt track racing and farm type stuff, but in the city's where they dont see muscle cars, then YES i agree with you the girls will want the guy with the subaru.  ;)  it all depends on the area

Quote

You are most likely right about that.  My 2002 WRX is a daily driver and nothing special, just the stock wheels and tires and exhaust.  From time to time I notice the the young girls looking at the car until they notice that a 60 year old man is driving and then they seem to lose interest, dammit.

When I drive my Charger, however, most people of all ages seem to have interest but for the most part the young girls could not care less, at least in Seattle area.

Now, my real hot rod (Buick GN) turns the young girls on big time and the windows are way to dark tinted for them to see my 60 year old face looking back at them.  It looks a little like a gangster car so that may explain it.
