my Rambler home has one of those little (new contruction) 10 X 10 foot padio decks on it that I'm considering expanding out next summer. I figured that I'd pull all the old deck boards off and replace them with new ones when I expand outward but I think the existing support structure underneath is reusable I'll just expand out for the new support structure Probably another 10 feet out and 10 feet the other way. I will probably have to get a home improvement loan to do this so what do you guys think the cost of a project like this might cost me? Just curious at what I'm looking at before I get into it. Of coarse it will need new banister fencing around it and an awning over it too and a step down to the concrete padio adjacent to the deck area. (I'm figuring on doing the labor myself)

"To za lumber yard!!" Forget about real redwood unless you're rich. A plastic 16-18' deck board is around $30-50 each. Ouch. :shruggy:
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

lowes has pretty good how-to's and gives you estimate on materials right there.

We have deck from composite plastic/wood it will outlast pretty much anything else out there. Rails are aluminum and plastic coated. Not worrying about maintaining it every season.

Yeah, go to HD or Lowe's. All the lumber yards are fighting for business and they'd be happy to give you a free estimate. Depending on materials your looking anywhere from $15.00 to $30.00 a SF so you need to specify what kind of materials you want.
