Can I repair my A/C vacuum switch hose?

On my 73 the vacuum switch hose is broken under the hood right out of the firewall grommet. But in the interior on the firewall it's in good shape with the vacuum hose and the check valve that goes to the switch. So I need the hose going from the grommet under the hood to the manifold vacuum. Is there just a hose going through that grommet or is it some kinda plastic connection in the grommet? I would hate to have to find another one. Can I repair it with some new vacuum hose?

you can replace the complete hose from end to end. I made it. the hose is "glued" on grommet... pull off the grommet from firewall with heater wire to work out of the car ( comfortably ) and remove and replace completelly the hose.
